I may not know my bird species too well, but I’m working on it as I enjoy the peacefulness of watching as the birds go by and listen as the singing their tunes.

Lythrum salicaria, or commonly known as Purple loosestrife; a severely invasive perennial plant in North America. It does have traditional medicinal and herbal uses, however it does extensive ecological damage.

It’s native to Eurasia and was introduced to North America back in the 1800s. Today, it chokes out native plants and destroys wetland habitats as it forms dense thickets and a single mature plant can produce over two million seeds per year.

Not great! How to remove it? Hand pulling is effective for small plants and digging out the roots while bagging the flowers/seeds (so they don’t spread) works in bigger plants. Aquatic safe herbicides can be applied directly to cut stems in larger patches (personally, I’d be careful with this one as herbicides can harm other plants).

This little guy is (likely) a Common European Ambersnail (Succinea putris)! He was spotted after a nice shower of rain in June.

📍Shenandoah National Park

Located in the state of Virginia in the USA, Shenandoah National Park was officially established in 1936 by Franklin D. Roosevelt with his speech that declared “We seek to pass on to our children a richer land, a stronger nation.”

National parks, public land, and healthy ecosystems are vital for our country, our world, and all life on Earth. These lands must continue to be protected and preserved for generations to follow. It’s important to visit them and learn about the world around you, just make sure you’re leaving no trace!

Bumble bee!

Bumble bees hold significant ecological value in our environment. I know they aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but they are keystone pollinators that are vital for the reproduction of many wildflowers and even some agricultural crops! The pollination they provide trees, shrubs, and wildflowers helps the flora to produce fruits and seeds that are the primary food source of many other wildlife species. So, it’s important to admire them from afar and protect their habitat and populations in order to ensure their success in our ecosystem!

📍Saguaro National Park

Located in the state of Arizona in the USA and established in 1994 the saguaro cactuses were beautiful sights to see during my trip in March 2026. Sights of zebra tailed lizards, painted ladies, turkey vultures, and road runners (not pictured), as well as so much other wildlife was just as incredible as the cactuses themselves.
