This year vs last year!

Always interesting to look back to compare locations and editing process and result from one year to the next. It appears that there was probably more smoke in the sky during last years shot based on the sky detail and softness on the mountains.

I already captured another Rho shot and hope to capture maybe one more before it sets for the season. Look for that image soon!

A different take on the recent lunar eclipse. This photo is composed of an HDR shot of the moon, a shot for clouds, and a shot for the stars. All photos were aligned on the moon during the eclipse.

I had the opportunity to capture this eclipse at a event in conjunction with .

This was a significant contrast in conditions from the mountains where you have to layer up even in the middle of summer to the desert of Grand Junction where it was around 80f. Overall a great time capturing the eclipsed moon with an amazing group of people.

I scouted this location last fall. When there was a clear night a few weeks ago, I knew this was the perfect time for this alignment as well as several other shots. Look forward to those soon!

Every time I visit Goblin Valley, I think of James Whitcomb Riley's "Little Orphan Annie".

I'm not sure if I was traumatized by reading it as a child, but it's one piece of literature I distinctly remember...

While it might be difficult to navigate around the goblins at night, I can guarantee that it was definitely not traumatizing 😃

Even if you're not in the path of the solar eclipse this week, you can still see some meteors!

This is a shot from the peak of the Perseids meteor shower back in 2023.

A meteor shower is an event that you should view with your eyes first from dark skies.

Look at a light pollution map and try to find as dark of an area as you can reasonably get to and ensure that there will not be significant clouds or smoke blocking your view.

This image was captured as a full night tracked timelapse with clouds passing consistently throughout the night. Many of these meteors were in photos with 50% or more cloud cover and quite a few were lost due to being partially hidden behind the clouds so you don't need perfect conditions!

Are you planning to capture the Perseids?

Delayed editing this for over 2 years. When I initially looked at the data, I saw the dust spots and decided to focus on my other eclipse shots...

With the eclipse next week, I decided to take a shot at editing this. Hope you like it.

If you are capturing a once-in-a-lifetime event like a solar eclipse, I recommend capturing flat frames just in case.
