Compared to my last 2 images of Rho, this sky was very difficult to work with. The data was not clean and the detail was just not as good. I really like this foreground or I probably wouldn’t post it.

The foreground is cropped from 4 panels of 2 minute exposures.

A few years ago I scouted this composition but never ended up having a free night to capture the image. Last month I was visiting the park for some other event and decide this was the perfect time to go for this composition.

The skies at the Black Canyon are usually dusty facing the southwest and face minor light pollution problems in the west. This shot was captured with the canyon wall blocking most of the light pollution.

I’m really happy with how this turned out and it’s my last Milky Way core shot with Rho for this year. I hope you were able to enjoy some nights under clear skies this summer!

Some scenes can only be described in pictures. The view over Telluride is one of them.

Three years ago I captured the southwest Milky Way over the valley. This image has been one of my most popular and is hanging for sale in the Elinoff Gallery in Telluride as well as in people's houses throughout the country so this year when I had a clear night, I decided to capture the northeast view which I think I like even better!

The image contains many interesting areas of the sky including the Andromeda Galaxy, Triangulum Galaxy, Heart Nebula, Soul Nebula, North America Nebula, Elephant's Trunk Nebula, Butterfly Nebula, and the double star cluster as well as other less prominent deep sky objects.

The sky is a 3 panel tracked stacked panorama using no filter, Ha filter, and soft light filter. The foreground is an HDR shot.

Same mountain range. Different angles.

The location of the light in the photo plays a significant role in where you look when seeing a photo. The first photo has the majority of the brightness in the sky while the second photo is pretty much the opposite with the majority of the lighting on the runway.
