How your messages normally find me…
On the floor with a text message to respond to, Alexa blasting 3EB, emails open, photos in the editing queue, on a phone call while looking for the girls to get off their bus out the window.
Now that summer is here, all the things I used to get done while my kids were in school will be happening with them right by my side. This was the first year both of my girls were in school full time, and I definitely saw the financial benefits of having that extra time to focus on work.
I remember when I couldn’t wait for them both to be in school so I could dedicate more energy to rebuilding my career and truly contributing financially to our family. I don’t regret feeling that way because it was the season of life I was in. I was overwhelmed, a first time mom navigating the demands of staying home and pouring every minute of myself into raising my girls. One thing that I know for certain is that I’ll always be grateful to Douglas for allowing me to stay home during the years they needed me most.
But now that summer is here, even though my schedule is as full as ever, I’ve made it a priority to put my girls first. They’ll only be this age once. With a few more years of motherhood under my belt, I finally understand what the older and wiser generations meant when they said to enjoy it while it lasts.
The days may feel long at times, but they’re passing quickly. The memories we’re making now will last far longer than the busy schedules and to-do lists ever will.
