Fourteen years ago, I started a business. This was my first office.

Looking at these photos brings a mix of joy, nostalgia, and reflection — and reminds me why I still love photography so much. It brings back emotions we thought belonged to another time.

A lot has changed since that 27-year-old version of me in her first year in business. Isabel Media Studios has grown from one person with a dream into a team, and we’ve moved through five different office spaces along the way.

And yet, some things never change. Apparently, I still think chairs — and the occasional random piece of furniture — make perfectly acceptable ladders. 😂

From hanging pictures in that first little office to hanging them in our space today, these photographs remind me not only of how much the business has grown, but how much I have grown with it.

National Photography Day!

When something becomes so accessible, it’s easy to forget how extraordinary it truly is.

Two hundred years ago, there was no way to capture exactly how our grandparents appeared, how our cities evolved, or the everyday experiences that shaped previous generations. Today, we preserve those memories in seconds.

That is the remarkable power of photography: it creates a visual record that can outlive the instant itself.

Photography changed my life. It gave me a profession, a way to document meaningful stories, and the privilege of creating images that may one day become part of someone’s history.

Today, on National Photography Day, when you reach for your phone to take a picture, consider the significance behind that simple act.

For me, I’m not only capturing today. I’m creating a visual record for tomorrow. 📷

In celebration, I’m sharing a few memories from the Art Market Artist Reception, where some of my personal photography work is currently featured — a meaningful reminder of why I fell in love with this art form in the first place.

Today, as the World Cup kicks off, I can’t help but feel excited about the future.

Just a week and a half ago, I had the opportunity to photograph the topping-off ceremony of the new amwaystadium Stadium. As I watch the world come together through soccer today, I can’t help but think about how much Grand Rapids is growing and the possibilities that lie ahead for our city.

Who knows? Maybe one day Grand Rapids will host an event of that magnitude or become part of even larger international sporting events and conversations.

Whether that happens or not, it’s inspiring to witness the growth happening around us. As our city continues to dream bigger and build bigger, I hope Isabel Media Studios is there to help document that journey and capture the moments that shape our community.

It’s an exciting time to be part of Grand Rapids—and an exciting time to be growing alongside it. ⚽📸

A professional headshot should do more than simply look polished. It should feel like you.

One of the things I value most as a photographer is creating headshots that reflect not only professionalism, but also the individuality of the person in front of the camera. Not every professional works in the same environment, carries the same energy, or tells the same story — so why should every headshot look exactly the same?

One of the most meaningful events we had the opportunity to experience this year was Ignite the Classroom, hosted by Huntington National Bank

Hearing Ron Clark speak about the message behind his book, Be 1% Better, was a powerful reminder that meaningful change in education often starts with small, intentional improvements that create a lasting impact over time.

Teachers contribute so much to our communities, yet their work is often undervalued despite the lasting influence they have on students every single day. Events like this celebrate educators who continue showing up with creativity, energy, and purpose to help students thrive in the classroom.

While Huntington’s cheerleaders brought the pom-poms, we brought the cameras — capturing and celebrating each educator who walked through those doors.

Cinco de Mayo—while it is widely celebrated across the United States, it’s important to recognize that it is not a national holiday in Mexico. In the U.S.A it has often been mistaken as Mexican Independence Day, even though it is not—this holiday reflects the blending of cultures and the ways communities choose to celebrate and honor heritage.

This evolution is something we see often through photography.

Images have the power to document not just what’s happening, but how culture is expressed, shaped, and refined across different spaces. Through events, businesses, and everyday moments, we see how traditions are carried, adapted, and expressed in new ways.

Two years ago, we created this video to help entrepreneurs understand how ChatGPT could support and grow their businesses.

At the time, ChatGBT was still new—something people were curious about, but not yet fully using.

Fast forward to today, and it’s part of everyday workflows. What once needed explanation is now a tool many businesses rely on.

This is the power of intentional video.

Informational content doesn’t have to feel transactional—it can still tell a story, reflect a brand, and connect with an audience in a meaningful way.

Happy Earth Day 🌎
