Hard to believe it’s already been three years.

When MVP Metro Club opened its doors in downtown Grand Rapids, it gave those of us who work nearby something pretty valuable — the ability to step away from the workday, move our bodies, clear our minds, and then get right back to work.

There’s something to be said for having that kind of space just a few steps away.

Three years ago, we photographed MVP’s Grand Opening and captured the beginning of their downtown story. Today, we’re looking back at some of those moments.

It’s hard to imagine life without color.

As a photographer, color is one of the tools I use to tell a story. It creates energy, communicates a mood, strengthens a brand, and can completely change the way an image feels.

But photography didn’t always have color.

For decades, the world was documented in black and white. It wasn’t until 1861 that one of the first major breakthroughs in color photography showed that photographs could capture not only a moment, but the colors within it.

And that changed everything.

Today, on National Coloring Day, I’m appreciating something that seems so ordinary now, but completely transformed photography:

Fourteen years ago, I started a business. This was my first office.

Looking at these photos brings a mix of joy, nostalgia, and reflection — and reminds me why I still love photography so much. It brings back emotions we thought belonged to another time.

A lot has changed since that 27-year-old version of me in her first year in business. Isabel Media Studios has grown from one person with a dream into a team, and we’ve moved through five different office spaces along the way.

And yet, some things never change. Apparently, I still think chairs — and the occasional random piece of furniture — make perfectly acceptable ladders. 😂

From hanging pictures in that first little office to hanging them in our space today, these photographs remind me not only of how much the business has grown, but how much I have grown with it.

National Photography Day!

When something becomes so accessible, it’s easy to forget how extraordinary it truly is.

Two hundred years ago, there was no way to capture exactly how our grandparents appeared, how our cities evolved, or the everyday experiences that shaped previous generations. Today, we preserve those memories in seconds.

That is the remarkable power of photography: it creates a visual record that can outlive the instant itself.

Photography changed my life. It gave me a profession, a way to document meaningful stories, and the privilege of creating images that may one day become part of someone’s history.

Today, on National Photography Day, when you reach for your phone to take a picture, consider the significance behind that simple act.

For me, I’m not only capturing today. I’m creating a visual record for tomorrow. 📷

Today, as the World Cup kicks off, I can’t help but feel excited about the future.

Just a week and a half ago, I had the opportunity to photograph the topping-off ceremony of the new amwaystadium Stadium. As I watch the world come together through soccer today, I can’t help but think about how much Grand Rapids is growing and the possibilities that lie ahead for our city.

Who knows? Maybe one day Grand Rapids will host an event of that magnitude or become part of even larger international sporting events and conversations.

Whether that happens or not, it’s inspiring to witness the growth happening around us. As our city continues to dream bigger and build bigger, I hope Isabel Media Studios is there to help document that journey and capture the moments that shape our community.

It’s an exciting time to be part of Grand Rapids—and an exciting time to be growing alongside it. ⚽📸

A professional headshot should do more than simply look polished. It should feel like you.

One of the things I value most as a photographer is creating headshots that reflect not only professionalism, but also the individuality of the person in front of the camera. Not every professional works in the same environment, carries the same energy, or tells the same story — so why should every headshot look exactly the same?

For me, the goal is never to create a cookie-cutter image. It’s to create a portrait that feels authentic, intentional, and aligned with your professional identity.

Because strong headshots are not just about looking professional. They’re about being remembered.
