I have had October on my mind lately. The crisp morning air, the endless colors. It brought me back to a photograph that I took last year and never got around to editing.

This morning meant a lot to me. I was closing in on the final days of my fall colors trip, realizing another year had come and gone.

Funny how quickly it all seems to go.

Have a great week ahead!

I have been slowing down lately. With a lot of things, to be totally honest.

Taking a break from social media, being more intentional with time in the field. Considering photography for what it truly is: a moment that spoke to you rather than content to constantly feed the algorithm.

It has been freeing, to say the least.

I'm still here. Just taking a little break before fall arrives.

Hope you enjoy this nice, cool weather that has finally found us.

Have a great week ahead, everyone!

There are times when just being there is all that is really needed.

For over a decade, I have been coming back to this waterfall. Every time, I walked away feeling like I never quite did it justice. After so many visits, I had started to wonder if there was anything new left for me to see here.

For years, I have known about a few small caves that are part of the geology here and explored them to some extent. But in slowing down and approaching this location as a place before considering it as a photograph, I think I finally found the story that was speaking to me.

Have a great week ahead, everyone. I hope you are enjoying August and the last bit of summer we have left...

It is almost leaf season. đź‘€

The last few weeks, I have had October on my mind. I am ready for those crisp mornings, slow days, and campfire nights.

I recently wrote a quick essay about the journey. Not just in photography, but in life in general. I linked it in the comments if you are interested in reading it.

Have a great week ahead, everyone!

A small chute hidden within the Huron Mountains of Michigan's Upper Peninsula catches the day's last light.

Excited to return to this spot in the fall, along with a few others out there!

Something I have been enjoying lately is returning to places I photographed years ago, but this time with my oldest son. I get to show him the adventures Dad went on before he was around and tell him the stories behind the hikes, the photographs, and the places that shaped me.

Every time I come here, I think back to an early morning in June 2019... I had not met my wife yet. No kids. My dad was still alive.

On the way home, he called and asked if I wanted to hang out with him that afternoon.

I sure did.

He had less than a year left at that point, and I had no idea.

It is not just about the adventure. It is about who you share it with.

This place has been part of my story for a long time.

Now, it is becoming part of my son's story, too.

Have a great week folks!

When I arrive somewhere, I am not looking for a subject. No expectations. Not even an idea of what I might want to photograph.

I am simply there to experience the light and the feeling of a place...

The photographs usually follow.

Have a beautiful Sunday, folks.

I have dabbled in a lot of things over the years, and a few recent adventures in light, presence, and place have really brought about a lot of clarity.

I have had seasons where I felt like maybe I lost my way of seeing, my creative voice. Others where it was so clear it was like talking to a friend.

It is similar to seasons of life, really. There are good, there are bad, there are in-between.

But we keep on going. Not because we are measured by our victories, but instead because we are aware of what it took to reach them.

Happy Wednesday, folks.
