"I know a place..."

This years fall color trip to the Upper Peninsula was nothing short of amazing. Great times with wonderful people, and, of course, exciting adventures.

One of those adventures landed me here, at a waterfall I had been telling myself I would get to for almost five years. A friend and I had grabbed breakfast that morning and were discussing where we should go that day... I know a place.

The adventure that followed was one of the best days of the trip. Thankful for good friends, the opportunity to explore places like this, and, the experience of being there.

Sometimes, things line up better than you ever could have planned. This was one of them!

It was my first visit to this location, and I had spent a little time learning it as a place before trying to understand it as a photograph. After about an hour, I noticed the stream of bubbles pouring out of the falls, making a perfect line right through the scene.

Sometimes, it just works out.

I stood in this very spot almost twenty years ago. Boy, was I young.

I remember standing here, thinking about my future and how life seems to meander just like a river. Twenty years later, I can confirm it certainly does.

Last year, I took a chance. I woke up early and saw that the sky was set for something special. Sunrise was going to be incredible.

My gut reaction was to go to the Lake of the Clouds overlook. I had shot that same scene hundreds of times, though. Instead, I returned to a little area that I had found in 2024.

I loved how the light painted the trunks of the trees and illuminated the color in the leaves just enough. The wind coming off the lake was intense; the leaves fluttered as the sun neared the horizon. Something I have always noticed about mornings along Lake Superior.

Was it worth it? Absolutely.

There is something very special about following your curiosity and seeing where it leads you.

It is almost time to get back out there and enjoy the experience of autumn...

This fall colors trip has become a yearly ritual for me.

The open road. The freedom of exploration. Something that I look forward to every year.

We are a little over a week away from the autumnal equinox. It is a reminder that another season comes to pass, in much the same way seasons of life do.

This is one of my favorite times of the year. Summer whispers goodbye as cool mornings, dew, and light fog fill the landscape again at sunrise.

Soon, we will be on to the next adventure... but for now, a few last moments of summer.

I have had October on my mind lately. The crisp morning air, the endless colors. It brought me back to a photograph that I took last year and never got around to editing.

This morning meant a lot to me. I was closing in on the final days of my fall colors trip, realizing another year had come and gone.

I have been slowing down lately. With a lot of things, to be totally honest.

Taking a break from social media, being more intentional with time in the field. Considering photography for what it truly is: a moment that spoke to you rather than content to constantly feed the algorithm.

It has been freeing, to say the least.

I'm still here. Just taking a little break before fall arrives.
