Eastern Sierra fall colors have officially reached their peak! 🍂✨
We headed up to Bishop Creek Canyon before sunrise to catch the golden aspens against the granite peaks. At 9,000+ feet, the autumn color palette is incredible right now—glowing yellows along the scree slopes, deep blues on the water, and sudden pockets of fiery crimson tucked between the trees.

Chasing stars along the California coast. 🌌🌊

A night of Milky Way photography at Martins Beach, where dramatic sea stacks meet the Pacific Ocean under a sky filled with stars.

The changing clouds added another layer to this nightscape, creating a completely different mood from the still photographs.

Sometimes the clouds have other plans. 🌌🌊

We drove out to Martins Beach hoping for a clear night beneath the Milky Way. But almost as soon as we finished setting up, clouds started rolling in and the sky began to change.

Instead of giving up, I waited.

The brief window of blue hour and the clearing in the clouds gave me just enough time to capture these sea stacks beneath the Milky Way.

Not every night goes according to plan. Sometimes you just have to work with what nature gives you. ✨

When a rare celestial event is on the line, staying home is not an option.

After finishing a long day of work, the forecast looked grim—thick cloud cover rolled heavily across the entire Bay Area. With no breaks in sight, my photography friend and I packed up the gear, checked satellite radar, and hit the road.
We drove 4 hours through the dark chasing clear sky, racing against the clock before the Earth’s umbral shadow took over.
When the skies finally broke open, it was breathtaking. Watching the lunar surface gradually vanish into complete, glowing copper-red totality made every mile of the chase worth it.
We wrapped the shoot, drove back, and got home around 2:00 AM. A quick couple of hours of sleep, plenty of coffee, and straight back into work the next morning. Completely exhausted, running on empty, but catching nights like this is what makes landscape and night sky photography so rewarding.

Nature’s cleanup crew doesn’t get enough love.

Turkey Vulture - and as a veterinarian, I find them more impressive than eagles.

That red head? Bare skin so it stays clean. That hole in the beak? No septum - you can see straight through. Best sense of smell of any bird.
This pose is called “horaltic” - sunbathing to warm up and bake off bacteria.

Ugly? No. Perfectly engineered.

The Hunt Begins… 🦅

Still learning. Still practicing. Still chasing the perfect dive.

This juvenile Osprey is learning the art of hunting, testing its wings and honing the skills it will need to become a master hunter.

Watching a bird of prey like this young Osprey develop its hunting instincts is one of the most rewarding parts of wildlife photography.

That intense stare says it all. 👀

Every great hunter starts somewhere.

Nothing prepares you for the sheer power of a humpback whale lunge-feeding right off the Northern California coast. The water began to boil with anchovies, seabirds swooped in by the hundreds, and seconds later, this giant exploded straight up through the chop in Pacifica.
You can clearly see the ventral pleats expanded and the baleen plates filtering thousands of gallons of water in a single mouthful . Moments like this remind you just how wild the Pacific really is just steps from shore.

Nature’s ultimate aerial hijack. 🦅⚡️

I set out to photograph an Osprey locking onto a dive to hunt fish. Instead, I witnessed pure coastal drama: an audacious Western Gull swooped in, aggressively tailgating the raptor and harassing it from directly above.

With the gull hovering inches off its back, the Osprey was completely thrown off its line, breaking off the hunt mid-air. Swipe through to watch the interception unfold frame by frame—especially the moment the gull looks like it’s attempting a mid-flight piggyback ride!
