Through the dedication and hard work of Doug Ellis, Chair of the Concord Historical Commission; Beth Schreiner van Duzer, Concord Historian; and Tish Hopkins, Supervisor of Town of Concord's Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, the identities and service of five Concord veterans buried in unmarked graves without headstones were recently uncovered.
This past Sunday, a moving Headstone Dedication Ceremony honored these veterans and ensured their service would be remembered for generations to come. The ceremony brought together many participants, including the Concord Minute Men, USS Constitution 1812 Marine Guard, the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company, Willie Grout Camp No. 25 and many others who came to pay their respects.
It was a beautiful day for a meaningful tribute to those who served. A wonderful example of the importance of preserving our local history and honoring the people who helped shape it.
