On Wednesday I spent a couple of hours under the Stockton Bridge known as the Sandspit. The birdlife was amazing.
These guys, Far Eastern Curlews (also known as Eastern Curlews) migrate each year to the Stockton Sandspit in the Hunter Wetlands National Park near Newcastle. They travel over 10,000 kilometres from their breeding grounds in northeast Asia (such as Siberia and northern China) They arrive in Australia from August onward to spend the southern spring and summer before heading back north around April. The Stockton Sandspit provides vital intertidal mudflats and saltmarshes for these birds to rest and feed.

Yesterday I took a trip out to the Walka Water Works with a friend. We had a fantastic day and I came home with over 500 photos of wildlife including birds. Here is a snippet.

I visited the Stockton Sandpit today (under the Stockton Bridge) and got this little Sacred Kingfisher. We were following each other for about 30 mins. Such a cute little dude. I will build a collection and share later.

The catastrophic 2019–2020 bushfire season in New South Wales—widely known as part of Australia's Black Summer—began in July 2019 and burned an unprecedented 5.5 million hectares (roughly 7% of the entire state), destroying 2,448 homes and resulting in 25 deaths in NSW.
Billions of native animals were killed or displaced, and severe smoke blanketed major cities like Sydney, Newcastle and the Hunter Region for weeks, creating hazardous air quality.
This was an extremely sad time for Australia and here is a collection of documented photos I captured in 2019 looking out from the Bolton Point Jetty.
