Happy guest, happy life 🖤

I remember Chloe & Mitchell’s alfresco reception being so lovely. Guests were dotted all around the venue chatting and laughing, with glasses of wine in hand and pasta free flowing. It was perfection.

This is what By Caitlan looks like in Queenstown.

It was a privilege to bring this shoot to life alongside an incredible team of creatives. The assignment was simple: to tell a story of a young and all-consuming romance in Queenstown – through quiet bridal moments, windswept portraits and, finally, an intimate candlelit celebration.

I’m endlessly grateful to the team who believed in the vision and contributed their artistry and expertise to make this shoot happen 🖤

“Neither of us are very comfortable in front of the camera.”

It’s one of the first things so many couples tell me when we start discussing their wedding day. Honestly, I understand. I’m also not comfortable in front of the camera.

Having someone follow you around with a camera can feel like a lot, especially on a day filled with so much emotion.

But my approach has never been about forcing moments or making you pose. It’s about creating space for you to simply be together, while I quietly and calmly document what’s already there and gently guide you, when needed.

It’s the little moments like, shared laughter over cocktail hour, warm embraces and the way your partner looks at you when you’re not watching

You don’t have to worry about being “good at photos” — you just need to be yourselves, and I’ll make sure the atmosphere is comfortable enough for you to be so.

You might not remember every detail of your wedding, but you will remember how it felt…

The quiet anticipation.
The look on your partner’s face.
The people who travelled to celebrate with you.
The joy, your happiness.

That’s why my approach to photography is documentary-led, so you can remember how it felt and not just what it looked like 🖤

Jess & Paul’s garden wedding in Waikato, New Zealand was incredibly personal to them — held in the garden of their families venue and brought to life with floral arrangements designed and installed by the groom’s sister Florakai 🖤

I am so excited to be a part of Together Journal Issue 43 and to share a little more about my work through an online feature, including why I have a particular love for black and white photography 🖤

If you’d like to read the feature, you’ll find the link in my bio.

A huge thank you to the Together Journal team! I’ve loved this magazine for many years and I’m so grateful to now be a part of it.

Kind words from Chloe & Mitchell after receiving their full gallery…

“How do you know you loved your wedding photos? You look at them every day and relive the day anew. Caitlan captured our day in a way I can’t quite put in to words. The morning of she felt like one of the girls, during our wedding portraits she gave us space to reflect on the day and the outcome were images which truly feel like us. She brings such a calm yet professional presence and we instantly trusted her completely. I can’t recommend Caitlan highly enough, she brings your memories to life in the most beautiful way.”

Reviews like these are so meaningful to me, and I appreciate every single word. Thank you Chloe & Mitchell for an inviting me into such a special chapter of your story🖤
