The ride has been wild, but it’s also been one I wouldn’t want to miss.

Thank you to everyone who has sent kind messages, encouragement, or simply hoped this move would work out for us. The family is really happy and I honestly could ask for more than that.

On the workshop side of things, I’ve finally managed to get the website set up to take payment plans. So now you can either save some money and pay upfront or choose a payment plan spread over 12 months.

Thank you again for all your support over the years. We truly appreciate it and it’s made a world of difference for us. So much love for you all 💛

Lately I’ve been revisiting some old weddings while settling into life here in Queenstown.

Maybe it’s the mountains.
Maybe it’s starting a completely new chapter.
Maybe it’s just time.

But I’ve realised how much I loved documenting days like this. I remember how special it feels being there for something so sacred.

Not the big production of it all.
Just people gathering somewhere beautiful and meaningful and trying to hold onto a moment before it disappears.

This wedding was tucked away in the mountains of North Carolina back in 2017, with the reception at Ali’s grandmother’s mountain house just down the road.

I hadn’t looked at these photos in years.

Feels strange and kind of special seeing them again now from the other side of the world.

The older I get, the more aware of become of the things I like to do and also the things I don’t like to do.

I’ve mentioned on here recently that taking photos professionally for 16 years has made it a tricky thing to maintain passion and joy in the art of taking photos.

But one thing I’ve loved from the beginning and until this very moment is this - exploring a new (snowy) place, shooting film with the family. For me, it’s that simple. Give me a roll of film, a camera that shoots it, Kesh and the kids and some place new and inspiring.

That stuff just lights me up inside.

Even after all these years, I don’t know if there’s a feeling that matches getting your film scans back. I’m still sitting on so many images from Japan but here are a few more of my favourites.

What kind of place is this, where I can drive to the end of the road and watch the aurora dance over mountains and lakes?

With everything existing in this world, all at once, nothing brings connection like staring at the night sky and considering that I might have come from the night sky I look at.

I took these without a tripod and simply found rocks that allowed somewhat decent compositions over a ten second exposure.

I’ve always felt like every photographer should at the very least know how to shoot with manual settings. Choosing whether to use them or not then becomes your own decision but having the knowledge of what your manual settings are and what they do and how to use them is actually incredibly liberating. On top of that, I believe that it allows you to take the best photos that you can. You become the one in control of the way the images look.

There’s nothing like shooting film in a place that inspires and Hokkaido during winter did exactly that. I was offline while we travelled - my first time since Instagram was downloaded on my phone more than a decade ago that I took a complete break. Highly recommend.

I also highly recommend shooting 100% film for a week or two. Really changes your approach where each frame becomes valuable, rather than something that doesn’t really require too much consideration which happens so often with digital.

Do you have a favourite photo in here?

I’d do this everyday for the rest of my life.
