Trail runners in the Kunanyi Trail Series Tolosa Half (21K), Tolosa Quarter (10K) and Tolosa 5km events enjoyed ideal conditions once again, with winter morning sunshine and fast, dry trails. It’s always a pleasure to photograph so many happy faces in this beautiful environment so close to home.

The 2026 Kunanyi Trail Series kicked off with ‘Run The Dark : Knockers Solstice’, a truly Tasmanian winter night’s adventure running through native bushland at Knocklofty Reserve in West Hobart on Sunday, 21 June 2026. As the event coincided with the final night of the Dark M**o festival, runners were encouraged to get into the spirit of Hobart’s ‘Paint the Town Red’ theme, so naturally I applied that colour to my photographs too.

Record-breaking performances by ASICS athletes at the 2026 McGrath Launceston Running Festival confirmed its status as “Australia’s fastest running course”.

Haftu Strintzos of Team Tempo won the male category of the Peppers Silo Half Marathon and broke the Australian All-Comers Record with a time of 1:00:41.

Izzi Batt–Doyle of Team Tempo won the female category of the Peppers Silo Half Marathon in 1:08:46, the fastest time by an Australian woman on Australian soil.

Caitlin Scott (née Adams) of Team Tempo won the female category of the Tamar Chiro 10K in 31:38, equalling the Australian All-Comers record set by Leanne Pompeani at Launceston in 2023.

Ed Marks (unsponsored and self-coached!) dominated the male category of the Tamar Chiro 10K, winning in 27:57, one second faster than the course record set by Stewart McSweyn at Launceston in 2025.

And shout out to James Hansen of Team Tempo who paced the lead group of men in the Half Marathon.

The unique finish arch at DIVERGE.Skyruns was constructed by race director, Lincoln Quilliam, and local builders, from reclaimed timber and metal and it perfectly represented the nature and location of the event. I had a camera there for the whole three day festival to capture the special moment when runners (and others) crossed the finish line at the end of their journey. There were hundreds of photos; here are just a few…

Photographing the inaugural DIVERGE.Skyruns in Queenstown, Tasmania was a truly unique experience. From climbing up mountains before sunrise, to capturing selfies on an airfield runway in the rain, this was such an incredible event to be a part of.
Congratulations to all the participants on your amazing achievements, and sincere thanks to all the volunteers and organising team from who made it possible.
I can’t wait to step away from the ordinary again in 2027!
