A Prelude to the New Norfolk Regatta

Today, the M.L. Egeria made her way up the River Derwent to New Norfolk - the first time she has made the journey with an unobstructed passage past the Bridgewater Bridge.

It was a pretty special sight - a historic vessel arriving at the heart of New Norfolk once again.

Today was a little prelude to something much bigger.

The New Norfolk Regatta, 12–14 February 2027, will celebrate the return of our river as a place for boats, people, history, adventure and community.

And what a journey it was. Local professional photographer Gary Sowter captured the Egeria’s progress at intervals along the river, giving us some wonderful glimpses of this historic journey.
