Absolutely stoked to be awarded the winner of the Aerial Category in the Landscape Awards hosted by Australian Photography magazine.

The competition recognises photographers from both Australia and New Zealand across four categories — Landscape, Seascape, Aerial and Urban. This year, more than 2,000 images were submitted, with a very generous prize pool from Western Digital, Camera House, EIZO and OM System valued at over $22,000.

A huge shout out as well to the wonderful panel of judges — Matt Palmer, Petra Leary, Serena Ho, Steph Vella, Ignacio Palacios and Anthony McKee — for the time, care and energy they brought to reviewing the entries, and for seeing what they did in this image.

What also makes this competition more meaningful is the more than $4,600 raised through entries for The Wilderness Society, bringing the total contribution to nearly $30,000 over the past four years.

Winners, runners-up and the Top 20 entries in each category will be published in the latest issue of Australian Photography magazine, available soon in newsagents and digitally via Zinio.

This image, titled Ghost Trees, was taken during a journey through Iceland last year. Really looking forward to getting back there again in a month or so and seeing what new compositions and conditions come to light ✨

So sweet to be home again and soaking up the magic of Te Wāhi Pounamu. Looking forward to heading north and connecting with my whānau again real soon. Would love to catch up with anyone up there over the next week or two — sing out if you’re keen.

Cheers,

Paulos

Day 2 of our seven day aerial adventure flying around remote areas of WA co-leading with my brother from another mother . To say we lucked into some truly epic locations is a bit of an understatement - easily some of the raddest material I’ve ever seen, holy smokeballs!

Just on my way to WA today to co-lead an expansive 3000km journey through the state with some great crew with my talented friend . We’re planning to revisit some of these scenes from our trip last year and explore some fresh new areas as well. Man’s impact on the landscape has long fascinated Scott & I both and the insight you can gain into the breadth and scope of it all from the air can often present as both visually compelling and quietly confronting at the same time ✨
