Senior pictures are usually something guys push through simply because it makes Mom happy. Not Hayden. Even after already surviving his high school senior photo experience a few years ago, he seemed genuinely happy to being doing it again for his college graduation, or at least he had me convinced he was. 🤣
You won’t see any expressions that say “How many more of these do we have to take?” He just owns it and is there for it, not only taking suggestions during the session but bringing what he likes and offering up his own style. I for one appreciate that level of respect. When someone brings that kind of confidence to a photo session, it makes my job incredibly easy.
What was even more impressive was Hayden was in the final stretch of training for an Ironman triathlon when these photos were taken. Just a couple of days later, he would be taking on one of the most demanding endurance challenges out there. You know, no big deal for him!
Hayden, it was so much fun getting to photograph you for both important chapters in your life. When we did this a few years ago, I understand it took some hot and ready now Krispy Kremes to motivate you, I’m sure the stakes (or perhaps steaks) were much bigger this time around.
Congratulations again Hayden on your Degree in Science with a concentration in Finance!

Annabelle had already checked the senior pictures box off the senior year to do list when I worked with her and Cody back in November (see post on May 1) but hey, that was all the way back in the fall ya know? It’s a special year, why not do it twice as nice? That was a chilly downtown and Greenfield Lake session but what she really wanted was a classic coastal, sunset setting at Wrightsville Beach. I was more than happy to accommodate. Holy cow was I pulling for that golden sunset for her and I thank the Lord for a jaw dropping afternoon!
Another thing that made this special for Annabelle was having her sister Madeline jump in for a few pics, and even some solo ones. These Getzen girls are so photogenic, they have no idea how to take a bad photo! BTW I am constantly asked by parents if it’s ok if siblings, best friends, boyfriends/girlfriends etc, can join in the fun. Of course! I will always say yes! I mean, if you are already hiring a photographer, why not? I’ll never understand other photogs who refuse or charge more for it. Never ever me. Bring the whole family if you want!
I’ve had a fantastic time documenting the different vibes of Annabelle’s senior year, but it’s onto a new chapter for her. Congratulations Annabelle and good luck to you at Florida Atlantic!

Another Rumbold family milestone, another one photographically documented. ✔️
I’ve known dad Will for decades. Used to work together, play flag and fantasy football, compare Friday Night Football highlights, Amy and I were there when he tied the knot with Lindsay. Well that’s how it started, you can see how it’s going. So much for this family to be proud of!
A few years ago I took Isabella’s high school senior photos, softball, prom and most recently her college graduation photos at Fayetteville State! She was a 4 year softball player there, and graduated summa cm laude with a bachelor’s degree in biology and a minor in Spanish. Wow!! Eventually she plans on applying for medical school. I also had the pleasure of photographing most of Mary Willow’s high school senior pics last fall, but had to out run the rain clouds coming from Fayetteville to Harrells to grab a handful of cap/gown and ECU announcement pics.
Barely made it!
This is all to truly express my sincere appreciation to the Rumbolds for constantly trusting me with capturing so many accomplishments that your beautiful family achieves! I really am so very honored to be asked to do so.
Congratulations again Isabella and Mary Willow! Already looking forward to the next Rumbold moment!

This one was just fun from minute one to the last click of the shutter, probably because Kendall (cool name 😊) and mom Kristen are 2 of the nicest people I’ve met! People say that but if you’ve met or know them, you are nodding your head right now with me. They also have a great dynamic with each other, one that I feel any mom and daughter would feel envious of and definitely kept Kendall smiling during her session all afternoon!
This all came together during my craziest days of the year and I was happy to make it happen. As always, praying for decent weather and cotton candy colored skies at the end for them, and thank the Lord that’s exactly what we got!
Kendall was hoping for flowers, always a popular request, but unfortunately they’re not always available and accessible to us photogs.
In fact, some of you have read posts of mine where we’ve found some random 2 inch high weeds on the roadside to pose in, just to get some semblance of flowers in their photos. Lately I’ve found a great spot for flowers has been near Overlook Park in Landfall. Thankfully they were blooming, beautiful, and Kendall was of course happy!
Congratulations Kendall and good luck to you at NC State!

I’ve photographed hundreds of seniors, but this one was a first for me, and it was all kinds of perfect! It’s the first time I’ve done a senior session that truly focused on the couple. Sure there have been plenty of times when boyfriends/girlfriends would swing by or tag along for a few photos here and there, but Kylie and Mathew wanted to celebrate their relationship together and where they are headed from here. I understand they’ve been “Kylie and Mathew” throughout high school and it was immediately easy to see how strong their connection is. Their journeys have already begun to take them down their different paths, as Mathew has already left for Army boot camp while Kylie is about to pursue her nursing degree at CFCC.
The various gorgeous backdrops and golden glow that Fort Fisher provides was an amazing setting to help document the bond they’ve built, before chasing their next adventure. They were so natural in front of the camera and they really didn’t need my help in looking like they belong together. Thank you Kylie for choosing a path dedicated to caring for others and Mathew for your willingness to serve our country, and both of you for trusting me to preserve such special moments in your lives!

Yet another example of how a photographer’s determination and patience paid off, even during said photog’s busiest time of year. The original plan was to meet and shoot Ashtyn’s UNCW graduation pics on Easter Sunday, which was already gonna be cutting it close to get photos back well in advance of an early May commencement. Then the clouds rolled in, creating gray, gloomy skies. I whole heartedly want all seniors I work with to have beautiful sunny days so they all have the best experience possible, with the best result. So Ashtyn, her mom Kelly, and I decided to take a chance, rearrange schedules, and hope the sun would cooperate about a week and a half later. It wasn't an easy decision. It meant Kelly wouldn't be able to be there to watch her daughter's senior photo session, and it left even less time for me to edit and deliver everything before graduation.
This type of scenario is why my hair is grayer than those clouds. 😊
As you can see... we made the right call. We were blessed with a phenomenal evening, beautiful light, and photos that were delivered with plenty of time to spare. The scramble, the stress, and the uncertainty were all worth it to give Ashtyn the images she deserves.
Congratulations Ashtyn, and good luck to you as you begin this next chapter in your life!

Having done this for a minute, I’m used to seniors taking a few minutes to settle in, working through butterflies they may have, before warming up to 100% the rest of the shoot. Let me tell you, that was NOT the case with Zoe- at all. From the jump, it was like she had been ready for this her whole life. I matched her enthusiasm and thought “Here we go!” Almost every click of the shutter, she’d change her pose, expression, etc. I’d snap a pic, and think “She’s gonna love that”, take another “and that one, and that one.” etc.
Yeah it was like that for about 2 hours.
Every little idea I had, Zoe was game.
Wanna get in this tree? Of course.
How about dodging a few cars to pose in the road? Let’s go. (her mom and dad, Marcia and Ernie, on board and trusting the process. 😊)
One mission of mine was to put Zoe in places for the sun to amplify that gorgeous red hair. I’d say that was an easy win. At one point toward the end, Zoe standing on the rocks, the sun produced one last orange burst for the day, spotlighting her hair through the trees just before setting, producing this incredible fire red glow!
In the end I took, wow, let’s just say it was a LOT of photos, so deciding on what to post here was ridiculously impossible. The legendary Fort Fisher golden glow just added to her already beautiful photos. I love each and every pic here, but just know there are many, many more as well.
Zoe is following in her mom’s footsteps and will be heading to Greenville. Congratulations Zoe and good luck at ECU! 🏴‍☠️

I spend so much time and effort trying to create a memorable experience for clients, one that helps them feel comfortable, confident and brings out the best version of themselves. It’s what drives every single shot I take. Though my job is to capture people at their best, truth is, they are the ones making me look good, maybe better than I really am.
Prime example right here, Marin. She doesn’t do this for a living, and like almost everyone I photograph, has never really ever had a photo session before, but you would never know it. From the first couple of minutes, her natural expressions, style and effortless movements from pose to pose, she looked completely at ease in front of the camera, which continued the for the entire shoot. Her look-offs are as good as they get. I’m just some dude there pushing a button on a machine, and she’s doing all the real work.
Yep, making me look good!
Truth be told, this was at the end of a very long week for me. I was pretty mentally exhausted, but Marin’s energy and effort was so rejuvenating, I snapped out of it real quick.
Thanks for bringing it Marin! I had a great time with you and your mom Susan Kissell Atkinson! Congratulations and good luck at Chapel Hill!

I remember turning the corner, wondering if they had yet arrived, and seeing Blair’s and her mom Dana’s excited faces, both wearing huge smiles, waving and welcoming me into the Bald Head Island ferry line. We greeted each other with high fives and hugs, all of us rather giddy with anticipation about the next few hours shooting Blair’s senior photos on gorgeous BHI. After planning months in advance, her day is finally here and I just know with full confidence her pics will be phenomenal without even yet piecing my camera together. You see, this- this moment right here is a big reason why I so love doing this!
Once we arrived and began, her session was already living up to the hype. Blair is sooooooo photogenic, but I had a little preview back in September. She tagged along for some pics with one of her bff’s, Alyssa (also amazing to shoot with!), on her senior shoot so I knew when Blair’s day came around, it would be amazing. Pretty much every photo I took of her I’m thinking to myself “Oh she is gonna love this one, and this one, and this one and wait are you serious?!” Yep all day long! It was nearly impossible to narrow down the number of photos to post what I did.
Gorgeous weather, breathtaking environment, working and hanging with incredible people who take incredible photos- it really doesn’t get much better than this!
Congratulations Blair and good luck to you at UNCW!
