There has always been a part of me that has felt most at home in the wild places.

Along the shoreline where the ocean reminds us that everything is always changing.

High in the western mountains where the wind carries stories older than any of us, and the world feels wonderfully untamed.

I’ve realized over the years that I don’t just visit those places.

They’ve shaped the way I see.

They’ve taught me to notice the light before it disappears. To slow down long enough to witness the quiet moments most people miss. To understand that beauty isn’t something we create—it is something we learn to recognize.

Maybe that’s why photography has never felt like simply taking pictures.

It feels like gathering the pieces of a life before they become memories.

Some photographs ask for color.

Others become unforgettable because they don’t need it.

There is something about a black and white image that makes you pause a little longer. It strips away distractions and leaves only what matters—the expression, the feeling, the moment.

These are some of my favorite images from Aila’s final session as a member of the Sage Willow Photography Senior Rep Team for the Class of 2026. From her first team shoot to this cap-and-gown session at Topsail High School, it has been such a joy watching her senior year unfold.

Senior year only happens once.

The final chapter of senior year. ✨

Last night, I met Aila at Topsail High School for one final session together—her cap and gown session and the last photos we’ll create as part of her journey on the Sage Willow Photography Senior Rep Team for the Class of 2026.

As the golden sunlight settled over the campus, we celebrated a season filled with growth, memories, friendships, and so many milestones. Senior year has a way of moving far too quickly, and this session felt like the perfect way to honor both the ending of one chapter and the beginning of another.

This fall, Aila will begin an exciting new adventure at UNC Charlotte, and I couldn’t be more excited for all that lies ahead.

Aila, thank you for being part of the Sage Willow Senior Rep Team. It has been such a joy watching you grow throughout your senior year. The best is truly yet to come.

In a world where images can now be generated with a prompt and altered beyond recognition, I’ve noticed more and more people asking an important question when searching for a photographer:

“Do they use AI?”

And honestly… I understand why.

People are craving something real again.

Real connection.
Real emotion.
Real memories.

So today on the blog, I’m sharing my thoughts on the growing conversation around AI in photography, the difference between editing and generating images, and why I believe the human heart behind the camera still matters more than ever.

Because nearly every photograph you’ve ever loved has been edited in some way. That part of photography is not new.

But there is a difference between enhancing a real moment… and creating one that never existed at all.

At Sage Willow Photography, I don’t use AI to manufacture memories. I use editing tools to honor them.

Every session is photographed by me.

Every image is hand-edited by me with intention, care, and the artistic vision my clients know and trust.

Some stories hit you deep in the heart. This is one of them.

Recently, The Heirloom Hotel in Laurel, Mississippi suffered a devastating fire. But instead of letting tragedy be the end of their story, they are choosing to rebuild. To stand back up. To create beauty from heartbreak.

They are now creating beautiful Heirloom Photo Rails from the hardwood salvaged from inside the hotel itself — turning something broken into a way to preserve the memories that matter most.

And if you know me at all, you know this connects deeply to the heart of everything I believe in.

Printed photographs are at the very center of all I create. Not files buried on a phone. Not memories lost in a cloud somewhere. Real photographs. Held in your hands. Displayed in your home. Passed down through generations.

These photo rails are such a beautiful way to display the people and moments you love most while also helping a family of best friends rebuild after unimaginable loss.

Life will knock us down sometimes. That part is unavoidable. But I truly believe we are not defined by the moments we fall. We are defined by how we rise again. God carries us through every hard season if we keep our eyes fixed on Him and trust His plan, even when we cannot yet see the purpose in the pain.
