And of course, just like I do for all of my cake smash sessions, we started with some simple, timeless portraits of Cassius and his family before we got to all the messy fun!

These are some of my favorite images to capture during a first birthday session. There’s something so special about slowing down and documenting the connection between parents and their little one without any distractions.

And can we talk about how gorgeous this family is?! I know these portraits are going to look absolutely beautiful displayed on their walls and will be treasured for years to come.

This past year was definitely the year of the girls around here, but I did get to photograph a few handsome little boys too! 😂💙 And today, it’s all about little Cassius, who just turned ONE a few days ago!

You may remember me sharing his newborn portraits last year, and I honestly can’t believe how much he has grown! He was such a sweet, cooperative little guy for his newborn session and was just as wonderful for his first birthday session.

I love that Mom and Dad chose a summer beach theme for his cake smash, but wanted to keep everything nice and simple so that the focus stayed right where it belongs - on Cassius! 🌊☀️🏖️

He was all smiles, showing off his adorable personality and making my job way too easy! It’s so much fun getting to see these babies again a year later and seeing how their little personalities have developed.

Happy 1st birthday, Cassius! I’m so glad I got to capture you as a newborn AND now as a happy, handsome one-year-old! 🥹🎂✨💙

Here’s another cutie pie who celebrated her first birthday this year! Little Paige turned ONE back in April and we celebrated with the sweetest Minnie Mouse theme! 🐭🎀🎂✨💕

I absolutely loved all the little details that came together for her session, but my favorite might be the adorable ears that Mom and Dad brought from home to complete her look! It’s those personal touches that make a birthday session feel even more special and unique to each little one.

Paige was such a sweet little birthday girl who absolutely SMASHED her cake! And, I loved capturing all of those adorable smiles, tiny details, and first-birthday memories for her family to treasure.

A little late sharing this sweet girl, but I couldn’t let Ellie’s first birthday session go by without showing off her adorable “One Silly Goose” celebration! 🪿🎂💕

I had SO much fun creating this playful little setup for her, and Ellie made it even better with those big smiles! She was clearly ready to celebrate turning ONE, and her happy little personality shined through every image.

There’s something so special about first birthday sessions, the little personalities are really starting to emerge, and I love creating a set that feels just as fun and unique as each little one. ✨

Remember sweet Hailey from yesterday? Well, today we get to share the fun part!

For Hailey’s first birthday, mom chose an under the sea theme for the sweetest little cake smash and to go along with her party at a nearby pool. 🎂🌊🐚🐠🪸🧜‍♀️

And Hailey? She was ALL about it! She happily dug into her cake, making the most adorable little mess as she celebrated turning ONE. 🥰🎂 And if you look closely, you’ll even spot her brand-new little first tooth poking through. Those tiny details are the things I love capturing because they change so quickly!

I was SO happy when sweet Hailey came back to see me to celebrate her first birthday this May! It feels like just yesterday that I was photographing her newborn session, and now look at her. She’s gotten SO big, but she’s still just as adorable! 🩷

More of little Ivee from yesterday! 💕

Before we get to the messy, cake-covered fun of a cake smash, I always take time to capture some simple, classic portraits of each little one and of the whole family together.

These are some of my favorite images from a cake smash session because they are authentic, timeless, and all about capturing your baby just as they are at this moment. No cake, no props, no distractions, just those sweet little smiles, expressions, and the people who love them most. 🥰

And honestly, I find these are often the portraits parents love most for their walls. They’re the images that will still feel beautiful years from now and bring you right back to this fleeting stage of childhood.

Excuse me while I interrupt this feed of gorgeous moms and adorable newborns to share some of the sweet babies who have celebrated their FIRST birthdays this year! 🎂✨

First up…meet adorable little Ivee! 💕 She just turned ONE this month, and I am absolutely loving the pink, purple, and butterfly theme Mom chose for her cake smash! 🦋💗💜

And how perfect is this dress from my client closet?! It fit her like a dream AND helped keep her own clothes nice and clean from all that cake-covered fun. 😂🙌🏻 Definitely a win for everyone!

Remember the beautiful family from the maternity session I shared yesterday? Well, here is the newest little member of their family. Maeve absolutely rocked her newborn session and even gave us some smiles.

And I spy a little dimple, just like her big brother! 😍🥰 I love discovering and capturing those little details that make each baby so uniquely them. Those are the tiny things you’ll treasure forever.

There’s something so special about documenting a family right before their world changes in the most beautiful way. 🤍

This wonderful family came to see me last fall as they were getting ready to welcome their second little one. I love that we were able to capture these sweet family moments while they were still a family of three, memories they can look back on and remember this beautiful season before becoming a family of four.

And can we talk about Mom?! She found this gorgeous dress in my client maternity closet, and I absolutely love how radiant she looks in this color! It was made for her! 😍

I can’t wait to share the next chapter of their story with you tomorrow…their beautiful baby girl arrived last December! 🎀✨
