At the start of this year, I told myself that I would do more portrait work and it has been a great first half of the year so far. I've done some really fun shoots (which I need to share more of) and I appreciate my friends for not only volunteering their time to model for me, but also trusting me to capture them in ways that, I hope, reflect who I know them to be.

I knew from the start that I wanted to do a photoshoot for May and AAPI Month. I've shared a lot throughout the last few years about my experiences as an Asian-American on my personal page, and particularly how I've been reclaiming the Asian side of that identity as I've gotten older. I wanted to capture the joy that stems from Asian cultures and communities, reflected in the vibrant colors and communal approach to experiencing and sharing food.

This shoot came together at the very last second but it's one of my favorites because of the intent behind it and also the collaborative effort it took to put it together โค๏ธ

I primary shot my first wedding (second ever) this summer. Was I happy with every single photo from the final edited album? No, but I learned a TON with posing and timing and there's a lot I would do differently should the opportunity present itself again ๐Ÿ™‚โ€โ†•๏ธ

Seeing the Northern Lights has been a bucket list item for me since I learned about them as a kid. Who would have thought I'd see such an insane display in Utah of all places? The sky glowed red for a few minutes during a surge, which was visible to the naked eye, and it was definitely a surreal experience. I almost didn't come out tonight but I'm so glad I decided to ๐Ÿคฉ

Comet Lemmon (C/2025 A6), discovered in January of this year, reached its closest point to Earth last night. While the comet was not visible to the naked eye - at least not from where my group was on the Salt Flats - it was visible with binoculars. It should remain visible in the western sky through November 12, reaching peak brightness on October 31. With a 1,350 year circuit through the solar system, Lemmon is a once in a lifetime viewing so it's worth a trip to a dark sky spot in the next few weeks to see it before it disappears!

It's tough to know what a night of stargazing will bring. The clouds were bad for most of yesterday, but the forecast showed a possibility of clear skies later in the night so I decided to drive out east anyways, knowing there was a high likelihood that I'd have to drive back if the clouds stuck around. Thankfully, the timing worked out perfectly because the clouds started to part after I settled into a spot and we were able to enjoy a good hour or so of pretty clear skies before the clouds started to roll back in.
