Fall mini sessions are officially open and I want to say the quiet part loud, ten Saturdays, four parks, forty five minutes each, and yes that number looks bigger than a normal mini and there's a reason for it the first fifteen or twenty minutes is not about the camera at all, it's about letting your kid land in a new place at their own pace before anybody asks them to look anywhere near a lens I built it that way because rushing that part never once got me a real smile, not in sixteen years of doing this, not one single time Bee Tree, Tower Grove, Faust, Forest, pick whichever park feels like your family, message the page with the date you want and I will hold your spot spots go in the order people message so if fall pictures have been sitting on your list, my people know I already get it if you've been putting this off, let's just get it on the calendar

Senior sessions with neurodivergent teens need a different kind of prep talk than the Pinterest boards are giving you, so here is mine. skip the multi outfit change marathon if changing clothes in a parking lot is going to wreck the whole vibe, one solid outfit beats three that come with a meltdown attached build in breaks even if the schedule looks tight on paper, bring the headphones, bring the snack, bring whatever keeps them regulated cause a regulated teen photographs better than a stressed one every time and let them have input, seniors want to feel like themselves in these pictures not like a prop in somebody else's vision board. Had a family session last week where one kiddo cried for the first fifteen minutes and by the end was laughing so hard he could barely stand up straight, and if that isn't the most honest picture of what this work actually is I don't know what is, both things were true in the same hour, the hard and the beautiful, and nobody had to pick one to make the day count. I used to think a good session meant nothing went wrong, sixteen years of parenting a kid who does not do things the easy way taught me that is not it at all. a good session means we stayed and we adjusted and we let the day be whatever it needed to be, and somewhere in there we got the shot, the real one, not the forced one. this is why I do it this way and I am not changing it for anybody

People ask me all the time what they should do to prep their kid for a session and honestly the answer is less than you think. we are not aiming for perfect eye contact and cheesy smiles on command here, we are aiming for real. so if your kid needs to bring the fidget or the favorite stuffed something or wants to wear the shirt that isn't the coordinated family color, bring it all, let them, cause a calm kid in their favorite shirt beats a matched outfit and a meltdown every single time. sixteen years of being a parent to a kid who does things his own way taught me that the plan has to bend, or it breaks. so, we build the session around your kid instead of asking your kid to fit the session, that is the whole thing, that is the entire secret. Come as you are and let's just see what happens when nobody is being managed for an hour.

Sixteen years into being a parent to a kid who does things his own way on his own timeline and I have learned both things can be true at the same time, it can be brutally hard and breathtakingly beautiful in the very same afternoon, some days both before lunch I did not learn that from a book, I learned it on the floor, on the bad days and the days I did not think would ever come That is where this whole business came from honestly, not a class I took, just a life I lived
