Warm winter wedding sunsets aren’t always a guarantee in the Midwest, but I’ll never pass up the opportunity to photograph a couple in that last pocket of golden light, no matter what the temperature may be (as long as the bride is cool with braving the cold :)).

I am a big lover of goals and resolutions and productivity and accomplishment. That can be such a good thing, but also, sometimes I am only future-minded, which keeps me from living in the present. And that’s a real bummer because the present is all we really have. So, as a gift to myself, I declared January as the month of having only one resolution (there will be more in February. I am who I am.), and it is this: I resolve to hold myself back from saying phrases like “I can’t wait until..” or “I’m really looking forward to..” Looking forward is great and necessary, but being here, REALLY being in the now, oh man, that takes intentionality for me. The weather is real cold and blustery and slippery in St. Louis today and I caught myself wishing it away, hoping the next season would just come more quickly. But, there’s good today. There’s delight in the slowness that keeps us inside under blankets and into books. And I don’t want to miss this. So here’s my dog, who doesn’t know anywhere to be but now. And now isn’t too bad.
