I'm a photographer who specializes in pet and family photography in the Raleigh area. After a busy spring (which I’m oh so grateful for), I had a hard time slowing down. Thankfully, the kids had no such problem.

Last week we traded our routines for turquoise water, wild flamingos, sea turtles, and more snorkeling than I thought possible. Curacao surprised me with its desert landscape 🌵 , colorful buildings, and some of the clearest water I’ve ever seen.

My favorite part, though, was watching our kids experience a place that felt so different from home…and in many ways, so much the same.

Grateful for the adventure, the memories, and a week together.

Finn brought the personality. The sunshine was just showingqq off.

If I could place a custom order for the weather before every session, this would be it. ☀️

Warm sunshine. A gentle breeze. And that golden glow that makes everything feel a little more magical.

My photography style is known for warmth and vivid color, and light like this is a big reason why. While I don’t usually reschedule sessions hoping for perfect conditions, if I we can easily swap from a gloomy day to one with sun, it’s a no brainer. I drain my phone battery checking the weather apps and cloud coverage for my sessions. 🤪

A few weeks ago, I got to say “yes” to an opportunity that’s been on my photography bucket list for years.

The kind of thing you hope might happen someday, but never quite know if it will.

I can’t share all the details just yet, but I’ll be able to on Monday and I’m counting down the days.

For now, I’m feeling incredibly grateful for every client, every dog, every family, and every person who’s trusted me with their memories along the way. ❤️ Especially as I’m about to mark TEN years since I left my full time career as a news reporter and anchor to start the path to full time pet and branding photographer.

The best brand photos don’t just document a business.
They help people feel something.

For pet businesses, that feeling is often:
trust, joy, relief, connection, and the comfort of knowing your dog is loved while you’re away.

That’s always my goal in working with brands - capturing real moments that help businesses tell a deeper story.

This spring, I photographed Companion Animal Hospital of Wakefield’s new daycare play yards and updated staff headshots. These play yard moments speak for themselves. Happy, healthy dogs living their best lives while their parents are at work or traveling. And swipe to see the gorgeous kitties getting some love inside.

This is the kind of content that keeps working long after it’s posted.

I have always valued photographs. Even before I became a pet photographer, I knew photos helped us hold onto the people and moments we love most.

But even after taking hundreds of thousands of photos of Baxter over the years, including many as I was building my business with him beside me as my muse, I still wanted more after he died.

Not just the big moments.
The ordinary ones too.

The way he looked at me.
The routines we didn’t realize were sacred at the time.
The years that felt endless until suddenly they weren’t.

That’s why I believe there are at least three stages of a pet’s life you don’t want to miss photographing:
• The beginning
• The middle years
• And the senior stage before things begin to change

Most people don’t wait because they don’t care.
They wait because life feels busy and normal and full.

Until one day it doesn’t.

I shared more about this in a blog post with Love, Baxter 🤍

Save this for later. Future you will be grateful you did.

The The Golden Bacons have been part of the TLC family for more than a decade… and this is now their FOURTH golden retriever I’ve photographed. 🤍

Millie was just a teeeeeeeny tiny puppy during her November session, and seeing her again this spring…man puppies don’t keep.

One minute they’re all fluff and oversized paws… and the next they’re starting to look grown up and big enough to be a menace on the leash. 🤣

Maisie is now the BIG sister. She was once the little sister to Murphy who was little brother to Mackenzie. A sweet legacy of love.

Behind every strong brand is a story, a purpose, and usually a hope to make someone’s life better in some way.

Meet Neal and Nami. 🐾 Neal is the founder of the Paws and Purpose Foundation, a program for at-risk youth centered around fitness, mentorship, and rescue dogs. As someone who knows how important support, connection, and feeling seen can be, that mission really resonated with me.

I believe kids thrive when they feel loved, encouraged, and valued by the adults around them. That same heart is behind the work Neal hopes to build through Paws & Purpose Foundation.

I also loved that these images could show both sides of his vision - professional and driven, but also grounded, approachable, and deeply connected to his dog.

Thank you, Neal, for trusting me to help tell your story. Excited to watch you work toward that 10-year plan!
