I'm a lover of Jesus, my family, a good iced vanilla latte, Instagram, "hippie music" as my husband calls it, Madewell jeans, chocolate, Greys Anatomy and Top Chef, white bedspreads, vacations, giving gifts, lazy days, the smell of citrus, and of course, taking pictures! I think happiness is a choice, life is an adventure, and it's important to always say "thank you" and "I love you". When I was in college, professors would ask me what I wanted to do with my life and I always answered enthusiastically, “be a mom!”. When a dream is placed in your heart, there is no escaping it. I admit I'm not very organized, but I do have drive and determination and great critical thinking skills! I'm a glass is full and overflowing kind of girl - the eternal optimist! I'm super sentimental and love to use exclamation marks!! What can I say, I'm an excited person. I’d have 19 kids and counting if my husband didn’t have common sense. My parents have been married for 40 years and I'm so inspired by their commitment and love. I can't cook, my husband can (no really! he graduated with a bachelors from culinary school!), and we're both free spirits.
My husband Trei and I met in college and have been happily married for FOURTEEN(!!!) years now. Together we've made four of the most amazing and beautiful children. Lucas is 12, Olivia is 11, Madelyn is 8, and Grace is 6. Yes, we are crazy. No, we wouldn't have it any other way! In fact, my photography journey didn't start when I was 10 and given my first camera - nor was it started out of a passion ignited in college. My son Lucas was 3 months old and it was time for me to go back to my desk job. I really really didn't want to leave my baby. One afternoon, my husband asked me what I would do instead and I casually responded that "I'd be a photographer." A few days later I quit my job and we drained our savings account of every single penny and invested in a Canon DSLR with a sweet lens. (See what I mean about us both being free spirits?) I thought the camera would do all the work. A few days into ownership, the harsh reality hit me, and I realized that if I wanted my photos to look anything like the phenomenal photographers I followed online - that I'd have to do way more than rely on my camera. After one year, a lot of books, a lot of googling, and A LOT of practicing - I was in "business". I never ever would have imagined that this tiny little dream I had would blow up into a business I absolutely love, or that it would afford me the opportunity to stay home raising my babies. What an honor it is to do what I do. I’m invited into peoples lives, to photograph the ones that are the most important to them. And then, after I’ve had the opportunity to glimpse into the beauty that makes up their lives - I leave with a whole new love and respect for this world and the relationships we are so blessed to get to experience. I also leave with new friends and really beautiful photos. It’s a total win/win for me!
If you love what you see - then I hope in time we can become friends, and I can take really beautiful photos of you too!
