With a camera phone flash in one hand, and pressing the trigger down with the other meanwhile smacking bugs left and right....the obstacles were torture but again, the end was worth it!
Note: Quick explanation: in astrophotography, “light painting” means using a light source (in this case, my cellphone) to illuminate parts of the scene during the exposure. Because the trees closest to me were within reach of the light, I could “paint” them and capture everything in a single exposure. When the trees are farther away, you either combine two exposures—one for the foreground and one for the sky—or simply expose for the Milky Way and leave the foreground dark.
