Everyone, meet George. 🐾
A week ago George's mom contacted me wanting a special end of life session for the two of them. I was honored and of course said yes. I could tell immediately that he was just a gentle giant. We spent the hour encouraging George in his walk of the location, taking plenty of breaks, and he even snacked on his favorite Sonic Drive-In hamburgers.
A few snippets from his mom:
"George was 12½ years old. We adopted him and his sister, Zoe, when they were almost two, and we were blessed to have them in our lives for 10½ wonderful years. We lost Zoe two years ago, and I remember thinking then how hard it would be when the day came to say goodbye to George.
Well, that day came… and I wasn’t ready.
I don’t think you can ever be ready to lose a piece of your heart.
George was my shadow. Wherever I went, he went. If I sat down, he was there. If I laid down, he somehow thought his giant self belonged right on top of me. George had absolutely ZERO respect for personal space.
George loved people. He loved going places and meeting new friends. Through Pets and People, he got to share that love with so many others.
St. Frances Cabrini Hospital was especially meaningful to George. During COVID, he visited the hospital to spend time with the staff and bring them a little comfort during such an incredibly difficult time. He had a way of making people smile, bringing comfort, and making people feel loved without ever saying a word.
He was also everything I love about the English Mastiff breed—gentle, loving, loyal, patient, goofy, and absolutely convinced that a giant dog belongs in your lap. He was a true representation of the breed and showed everyone he met just how special these big, gentle souls can be.
But to me, he was simply my boy.
Our house is quieter this afternoon. My heart is heavier. And there is a giant empty space where my shadow used to be.
Thank you for finding us. Thank you for loving us. Thank you for loving so many others.
You were the very best boy."
