Walking with Camera

Walking with Camera Started walking at 412 lbs, now around 250! What began as steps for health turned into steps toward happiness—with a camera in hand.

I traded snacks for snapshots, and now I share the view. Hope my photos (and bad jokes) make your day a bit brighter!

Osprey With The Catch

Ever try to carry lunch when lunch is fighting the entire way?

At Leesylvania State Park on August 18, 2026, this Osprey came up with a bright fish and all the drama that comes with a successful catch. The wings, talons, and fish were all moving at once, but the bird had the important part under control.

That fish may not have ordered takeout, but it was definitely leaving the dock.

Orange and Yellow in the Leaves
Which bright visitor would have caught your eye first?
A male Baltimore Oriole brought deep orange and black to the branches while a Yellow Warbler added a flash of clear summer yellow. The photographs were made at Veterans Memorial Park on May 14, 2026.

They clearly coordinated the color palette before arriving.

These Chihuahua birds never miss a chance to raise the woof.

Osprey Landing Practice
Have you ever watched an osprey negotiate a crowded landing spot?
Large wings, narrow branches, and careful timing made this approach look more complicated than any airport arrival.

The osprey handled it with considerably less paperwork.

Nature Turns Up the Color
Which color catches your attention first?
Layers of lilies filled the frame with bold reds, oranges, and golds.

Sometimes nature abandons subtlety entirely—and honestly, it works. The lilies were clearly having a blooming good day.

Working on the Water
What story would you have imagined seeing these boats on the water?
A calm shoreline scene took on a different character as the police boats worked across the river.

Even routine activity can become visually interesting when viewed through a camera. Apparently even calm water has to stay current with local law enforcement.

Sunbathing on the Logs 🦎
How quickly did you notice the lizards against the weathered wood?
Their stripes and sleek bodies stood out beautifully once the eye adjusted to the texture of the log.

Sunshine, camouflage, and a convenient perch made a fine reptile portrait session. The skinks were clearly basking in the attention.

A Butterfly Along the Trail 🦋
Would this butterfly have caught your eye along the trail?
A butterfly paused just long enough for its wing pattern and quiet colors to stand apart from the surrounding greenery. The photograph was made at Neabsco Creek Boardwalk, Neabsco Regional Park on June 8, 2026.

It treated the trail like a runway and left before the reviews came in.

Small Life in Sharp Detail 🔎
Would you have noticed this tiny beetle at walking speed?
A dark beetle lifted its wings among bright green leaves, turning a tiny trail-side moment into a study of shape and shine. The photograph was made at Leesylvania State Park on June 4, 2026.

Nature packed plenty of engineering into a very small bug-et.
