Digging back through the archives for a client request. I always enjoy looking back through these images of the Ponoi River Company, taken in 2012 during my time there. What a fishery, what a place.

Throwing it back to a job in Kenya in 2018 with MSR Mountain Safety Research and Flying Kites Bivouacking in the African bush, spending time in local schools which were getting their first sources of clean water, hippos wandering into our second campsite, boda boda rides on misty dirt roads, hikes in the Aberdare Mountains, and a quick safari spin to see rhinos set against the growing skyline of Nairobi… it was a trip to remember.

Nice to be back on the east side of the Divide. Moved back over to Bozeman this weekend, and am still unpacking and setting up the new space. It’s been nice to be greeted by old haunts and plenty of Montana summer thunderstorms.

It’s been quite the week here in Montana. Before the chaos of a move I snuck in a little visit to Paws Up Montana (media visit) for a quick getaway and a reminder why little brookies on a two-right are special.

Read about it in this week’s newsletter:

Occasionally I get to do a job on home turf.

Adios, Missoula. A stop I intended to be pretty temporary lasted eight years. Now bags are packed, the gear is loaded, and I’m heading east of the Divide, back over to Bozeman. Looking forward to visiting some old haunts and setting up a new HQ. Thanks to all the new friends in Missoula who joined in adventures these past few years… I’ll see you all around!

Brook trout in the brain. We had some fun days chasing these gorgeous, big trout last January with 𝑭𝒆𝒅𝒆 𝑷𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒄𝒉 and Uriel Tardon at El Encuentro Flyfishing. I’ll be back here this next January to host a group, and am excited to get back in this water with friends!

Foggy, cool mornings are starting to hint at autumn around the corner. But hopper season is still hanging on.

A few shots from today, finishing up a work trip to Paws Up Montana.

About this time last year I was up in Alaska putting in some work helping build katmai_sky_lodge with friends Skylar Lamont, Chapin Lamont, Darcie Lamont, Sarah Rønholt, and Zach (who wisely is not on IG). We moved lumber, framed walls, cooked meals, and managed to sneak away for two days to chase some fish around with the bears. Hard to believe it’s been a year.
