It all started in Glacier.

That’s where Madi and Paul fell in love, and also where they got engaged. So it was incredibly fitting that we zip on up there to visit some of their favorite places together, and just bask in that newlywed excitement and happiness. And, you know… do it in a spot that I’m pretty sure is paradise on earth.

They laughed, they hugged, they ran through wildflower meadows together. They kissed, they held each other, they smiled. And they took it all in together… this time as husband and wife.

Madi and Paul! Seriously… what an awesome time it was getting to hang out with you again. You two are fantabulous (real word, I swear 😉), and I’m just so happy for you both as you embark on your latest, grandest adventure. Cheers to love!

Going with the flow was the name of the game for Madi and Paul’s wedding the other day. And it made for such a beautiful day for these two to celebrate their love for one another.

As Madi said while she was getting ready, “I’m marrying Paul today. And that’s all that matters.”

Somehow, the rain managed to hold off for us, and their ceremony and reception was filled with absolute joy and love. Madi and Paul hold such a deep, mutual respect for each other, with a healthy dose of silliness, and that was evident not only in their vows, but in how much those vows touched not only them, but their friends and family, too.

Madi and Paul! Thank you again for having me capture your wedding day! You two are clearly meant to be together, and I absolutely loved getting to meet your friends and family, too. (Such a good crew you have!)

Can’t wait to hang in Glacier with you both! 🏔️

Happy Hatchday to this little dude, who’s FOUR! To celebrate, Bobbin had a big play session featuring some of his favorite tricks (basketball included), he got lots of little snuggles and scratches, he made a visit to his greatest loves (my toothbrush and the garbage can 😆), he had a great time making the tiniest little paper spitballs to put in my hair, played peekaboo (or, in his world, peekaBEE) and was treated to some yummy snacks.

He’s the sweetest little fellow with THE biggest personality ever. And I love him with all my heart. 🩵💚

Happy birthday, sweet little baby Bobbin!

I did a leg day workout recently. They’re difficult and sit uncomfortably close to the dictionary definition of misery (imho)… and somewhere between catching my breath and questioning my choices, I had a thought.

Booking a photo session is kind of exactly like this.

You want to do it. You know you should do it. You’ve probably been meaning to do it. But it’s also A Whole Thing, and there’s a calendar to negotiate and an outfit to figure out and, and, and...

So it sits on the list.

But then you actually DO it. The photos come back and it just feels so darn good. Maybe you’re even a little proud of yourself.

My workout coach often says something that sticks with me every single time: “This isn’t something we HAVE to do. It’s something we GET to do.”

I think about that a lot. Because showing up for yourself, whether in a workout or in front of a camera, is genuinely something to be grateful for.

(Also, I PROMISE your session will be significantly more fun than leg day! 😆)

I have a bit of a reputation.

Anyone who spends more than twenty minutes outside with me has heard some version of this exact sentence:
“Oh my gosh. Look at that liiiiiight!”

A shadow falling across a building. The way the sky turns this ethereal shade of pink for about four minutes before it’s gone. The specific quality of evening light in May when it goes all warm and low and golden and filters through the new leaves just so. Gahhhh. It’s perfection.

I notice all of it. I comment on all of it. It has very much become “A Thing,” according to the people in my life.

(“Have I mentioned I love light?” I say smiling at them as I poke fun at myself. They laugh, roll their eyes at me, and respond, “Nawwww. Never.”)

But here’s why it matters beyond just being my personality quirk: light is everything in photography. Not in a fussy, technical way (but that, too, of course) — instead it’s in a this-is-what-makes-a-photo-feel-like-something way. And this time of year, when the days are long and the evenings stretch out and Montana is just showing off in the best way... I get genuinely stoked about what’s possible.

(Fair warning if we ever shoot together: if the light does something beautiful, I will absolutely say something about it. It’s entirely unavoidable at this point. 😉)

Did you know that a large percentage of my headshot clients actually hate having their photo taken? And I empathize. Most of us aren’t in front of a camera regularly, or we even experience anxiety at the thought of having our photo made.

But that’s a challenge I embrace. 🙌

So even before you step in front of the lens, I’ve got your back. I walk you through what to expect with your session, we’ll pick a location that fits your vibe, and I send you a prep guide that helps ease you into your session and make sure you’re as ready to go as you can be. Every step of the process is easy, so you can just show up to the session and let your best self shine.

And, of course, I’m there for you on your session day, too. We’ll chat and walk and talk to help you get your mind off of “performing” for the camera, and instead just “being.” I’ll guide you without making things feel stiff. Chances are, we’ll be laughing together, too. (Always my favorite.)

Case in point: L was not looking forward to having her photos done (but, as she said, looking forward to “having it over with!”). And you know what? She did a great job in spite of her apprehension. Her goal was to keep things soft, natural, non-stuffy, and avoid giant grins… we did just that.

At the end of her session she told me it was easy and enjoyable, and she loved the simplicity of the entire process. We created stellar images together, while having a great time. That’s always my goal.

If this kind of a custom, relaxed session speaks to you, lemme know. I’d be happy to chat about your vision for your own headshots!

I was putting away laundry the other day — not working, not even thinking about work — and the light came through the window in my bedroom filtering through all the new leaves dancing in a gentle breeze, and just created this most beautiful golden, softness between light and shadow. And I actually slowed down and stopped.

Just to marvel at it.

I cannot turn this off. I have tried. But I have also not tried very hard. 😏

Are you the same way? Has light just stopped you in your tracks before? What was it that caught your eye?

Here’s what different light actually does, and why none of it is wrong:

▪️Overcast? You get rich, saturated colors and this beautifully even softness. No harsh shadows, no squinting. Just clean and flattering.
▪️Golden hour? That warm glow does something genuinely special. It’s the crowd favorite for good reason.
▪️Moody, almost-ready-to-storm sky? I have clients who ended up with their absolute favorite images from sessions that started out looking a little dicey.
▪️Midday with deep shadows? Dramatic. Editorial. Honestly kind of cool if you’re into something a little more out of the box.

Mother Nature does what she wants. And I love that about her.

There is no bad light. There is just light... and figuring out what to do with it is one of the things I love most.
