If you have a senior this year, this is the post worth pausing on.

Yearbook deadlines come up faster than expected, and fall books up… especially the most popular weekend times.

Getting a date locked in now means you actually have options. It means there’s breathing room if something comes up and you need to reschedule. It means your senior isn’t scrambling for portraits while also managing college applications, fall sports, and every other thing that lands on their plate at once.

Senior sessions are one of those things that feel flexible until they suddenly don’t.

If you’ve been thinking about it, reach out now. Even just to check availability. The link is in my bio. 😊

Sometimes the most compelling headshot isn’t one where you’re smiling.

Now, don’t get me wrong… I love smiling, happy photos. But what I’m always leading with first is your end goal for your images.

And in Maddie’s case, she wanted to create a variety of looks and feels to fit the characters she’d like to portray on film, since she’s an actor and we were creating actor headshots together. She often plays a lot of serious or slightly awkward characters, so we leaned into a vibe that didn’t feel overly polished.

And I gotta say, she absolutely NAILED what she was aiming for. I mean. Holy smokes. This connection with the camera? Yes, please!

Thanks again, Maddie, for trusting me with your headshots — can’t wait for those auditions to start stacking up for you!

You know when you meet people and you can just tell immediately how perfect they are for one another?

That’s Clifford and Miranda, 1000%.

We had SO much fun during their engagement session the other day, but my favorite part was just watching them interact with each other, and their sweet pup, Cedar.

There was so much laughter, joy, and playfulness. Plus, we were all absolutely cracking up at 11-year-old Cedar and his wiggles and zoomies because he was just So. Darn. Excited. to hang out with his happy humans.

Congrats again, Clifford and Miranda (and Cedar, too, of course!). I absolutely loved getting to hang out with you and make these images together — can’t wait to share more soon!

Did you know one of my favorite things is to hear YOUR ideas about where you’d like to have your photographs made?

So when Katrina had an idea in mind at a place she loves to frequent, I was all about it. And it made for the perfect backdrop for her headshots that didn’t feel stiff like a studio setting might.

It also didn’t hurt that we were treated to a beautiful, smoke-free sunny morning, and just an overall joyful atmosphere since Katrina is quick to smile, and easy to chat with.

Thank you again, Katrina, for such a delightful session! It was so nice to meet you, and you made my job such a breeze — I’m really looking forward to sharing the rest of your images with you soon. In the meantime, I’m putting out all the good nonprofit vibes into the ether for you!

There’s nothing like a sunny summer’s evening, amiright? Allie and I weren’t quite sure what we’d be treated to, what with ALL the smoke in the sky lately, but the wind came in and scooched a lot of that smoke right on out of the valley, much to our pleasure!

And boy, did we ever make the most of it together! We got to play in the water, dance around in tall grasses, and Allie (who’s an incredibly talented gymnast) even did some cartwheels for kicks and giggles.

Speaking of which… Allie committed to Oregon State University in November, and will be on their gymnastics team once she graduates from Big Sky High School. Talk about an awesome opportunity that she’s worked hard to earn! (Allie’s been participating in gymnastics since she was the ripe old age of ONE. šŸ˜‰)

She assured me, though, that she makes time for fun outside of gymnastics, too, and loves to spend time outdoors, and exercise her creativity with drawing and photography. And, she loves animals — she’s planning on studying veterinary science at OSU.

Thanks again for such a fun session, Allie! I loved getting to hang out with you and your mom (kudos to Kristen for the behind the scenes shot in this series of images), and I can tell you’ve got grand things ahead for you! Cheers to you, your senior year, and an exciting college career ahead!

You know that feeling when you immediately click with someone? Multiply that feeling by every single person at Jessica and Hunter’s wedding reception and you’ll realize just how amazing it was. šŸ’—

I photographed Jessica and Hunter’s super sweet courthouse wedding last fall. Fast forward to this August, and they gathered a larger group together to celebrate at their ranch. Everyone enjoyed BBQ, drinks, excellent toasts, desserts, snow cones, tons of happy dogs, loads of laughter, and a smoky sunset over the valley. But most importantly, they enjoyed just being together.

And that? That’s pretty darn perfect in my opinion.

Jessica and Hunter (and all your family and friends, too)! I just adore you, and want to thank you for inviting me to be your photographer for such hugely special moments in your lives. Here’s to you two, the pure joy and happiness you share with others, and a brilliant future together!

In spite of some smoky skies, we made the most of Nora’s senior photos, and managed to get some mountains in there for her, too!

Which was ultra important, because Nora was visiting Missoula from North Dakota… and NoDak definitely does not have much in the way of mountains. šŸ˜… (No shade to NoDak, of course!) Plus, Missoula holds a special place in her heart, since her family has made summertime visits here for years.

And Missoula did not disappoint! We had such a great time making images in the forest, along a creek, and up in some fields… all locations Nora was hoping to hit. She also told me she wanted her photos to elicit a sense of nostalgia, and loved the idea of some faceless images as well. So we did exactly that, and I think she absolutely knocked it out of the park!

As we walked and talked, Nora told me she’s involved in theatre, choir, and orchestra. And when she’s got some spare time to enjoy, she loves arts and crafts (she’s into some cool paint by numbers artwork), spending time on her bike, writing, and reading. And, of course, hanging out with her friends.

After graduation, she’s thinking she’d like to go to college to become an SLP or a pediatrician because she loves kids.

Nora! Thank you again for such a fun session — and for being such a trooper in the smoke! I hope you and your fam have a wonderful rest of your Montana visit, and that you have an awesome senior year ahead!
