This is called (cleverly enough) Man in Light From a Window. It was taken at the Whitney Museum last week (with my new Nikon Z8 camera—I finally ditched the DSLR for mirrorless). It demonstrates that men can look contemplative, although possibly he is just bored. For more, try my website, jamesmpeaslee.com.

This is called Waves on a Japanese Shore, although it was taken in Chelsea (Manhattan). I thought it had a bit of a Japanese print flavor, hence the name. It is also my first diptych. Could a triptych be in my future?

I have one picture in a juried exhibition called Intimacy, which is now up through May 16 at the Soho Photo Gallery (539 West 23rd Street).

I tend to like titles that are descriptive, so this one is Three Heads, Eight Feet. It was taken a few weeks ago, out of a screened window at the (newly reopened) New Museum, in the Bowery. For more, try my website, jamesmpeaslee.com.

I have one picture in a juried exhibition called Intimacy, which opens this week at the Soho Photo Gallery (reception Thursday, April 23, 6-8, 539 West 23rd Street). I for one will be quite interested to see what pictures people submitted under this somewhat provocative heading (mine is quite tame—a picture with children’s hands).

This is called Bank at 125th Street, and, to me at least, is a financial institution (and Harlem) version of the Hopper painting Nighthawks. To see more pictures of solitary people (and other Hopperesque themes), go to jamesmpeaslee.com.

This picture is called Flag Figures. It am posting it because it will be in a juried photography show opening next week in Manhattan called Blur, Where Shall We Look. The location is a (downstairs) gallery (next to a bar which hopefully will be open) at the venerable Salmagundi Club (47 Fifth Avenue at 12th street). Dates are March 17- April 3, with an opening reception Friday, March 20, 6-8. Check the club website for opening hours. The club was created in 1871 to promote the advancement of art of all kinds (yes, even photography). I certainly wouldn’t come just to see my piece, but the show as a whole is likely to be quite good; and, if you have never visited the Salmagundi Club building, it is definitely worth a trip. They have quite an interesting permanent art collection as well as multiple revolving exhibitions.

This is called “A Man and Woman Abstracted”. It’s the picture of a couple, taken through a translucent movie screen that was part of an exhibition at MOMA. It’s one of a number of pictures I seem to be taking lately that show people in reflections or otherwise through visual screens. I’m having a show with 15 pictures of this ilk in September, at the Soho Photo Gallery (title is “Hidden Figures”).

This is called Man Knocking. It reminds me why light is so important to photographers (and photosynthesis). The picture on a dull day would be completely uninteresting. This was taken 10 days ago at the Moynihan Station (Moynihan, for those too young to remember, the “defining deviancy down” academic, US Senate and UN guy).

This is one of four pictures I just added to my website (jamesmpeaslee.com) called Detritus, 1-4, Times Square, January 1, 2026. Can you figure out what it is? It’s a cold day in NYC, so I thought something cheery would be welcomed, like a cup of hot tea.
