I received an epic answer to a question that I have asked rooms full of people today at the Lunch ‘n Learn that I presented at Willingham Law Firm, P.C. Adriana said that she wanted to know “everything” about past generations.

You may not be able to document every detail of your life, but you can record some of it so future heirs can get to know who you were.

One day, you will be the person someone will want to know more about. Make it easy for them by filming your story.

There are six granddaughters who have spent a significant amount of time with their grandparents every year, nearly their entire lives at .

Today, I had the pleasure of meeting and , two of the coolest grandparents to walk the face of the earth. They gifted me a copy of their book appropriately titled "Grandma and Grandpa Camp," which, as their website says, is not about doing everything big, but about doing the right things together.

It reminded me that when our nephews lived in the same city, their parents would celebrate their anniversary in December, while we watched the boys. We had a little tradition of homemade, personalized pizzas. There were no pizza topping rules or requirements; they got to create it however they wanted to. Afterward, we would make a Christmas craft together. Remember salt dough ornaments? That was one. My favorite one was a Christmas ornament that I will share in my own book next year.

For now, whether you are a Grandma, a Grandpa, an Aunt, an Uncle, or another close relative, I want to recommend getting a copy of Grandma and Grandpa Camp for yourself. Though I haven't read mine yet, I have watched a couple of guest appearances they've done since introduced us. I know it has some good stuff in it!

What have you taught your children or grandchildren that you take a little pride in sharing with others?

My dad taught me that "If a job is worth doing, it is worth doing right the first time." I, in turn, passed that on to my children. They are hard workers, which I am proud of.

Dad was taught that doing good work and making the community a better place represent your family name. Grandpa Barrera instilled that in him.

I have recorded my dad explaining the backstory to me. Those stories will be passed forward to future generations because I scheduled a time to not only listen to them, but to document them.

Losing someone you love is never easy.

When my sister Kristina told me to "Go get the letters," we had no idea that that moment would change the trajectory of my life.

Labor Day is more than a long weekend; it is how we honor and support the workforce every day.

When we moved to McKinney four years ago, we had no idea it had so much to offer.

One of the first things we got in the mail was a newspaper called Community Impact. In it, I read the story of Jason Hernandez and La Tiendita. I kept that article for several weeks. I wanted to meet him and see the store that made an impact on his life. If you are not familiar with his story, it is pretty powerful. Look it up.

In the world of publications, just like in the world of any business, you will find people who are in verticals that align with your vision. Today, I found that to be true with Miranda Talley, General Manager of Community Impact News in McKinney and Allen.

When she looked through FACES of McKinney, names of people and nonprofits who should be in it started coming to her mind. This magazine is different.

For example, every business gets to claim what they want to be represented as the "Face of" in the community. A realtor might choose to be the "Face of Home", while another might choose the "Face of Luxury Real Estate." Each title is exclusive to the annual edition, and each business has first rights to sign up for the magazine again the following year.

FACES of McKinney is just getting started, but it won't take long to fill the fifty business spaces and their chosen nonprofits. What would your business like to be known as the "Face of" in McKinney?

How did you find your purpose?

Maybe you looked up to someone in your family or a mentor. My purpose came through the combination of the loss of my sister, Kristina, and volunteering for .

Now that I know that recording people's life stories is my specific purpose, I have had the opportunity to speak about it on podcasts, at summits, on stages, and in articles. Writing a chapter in the anthology "LeadHERship: Women Leading with Purpose" motivated me to complete my own book, which will be published next year.

Good people who do good by helping others are my kind of people.

Dana Riley, Donor Relations Manager at The Samaritan Inn, spoke to the Empower McKinney networking group today. She started with a question: When you think of someone as homeless, what does that look like to you?

The reality is that homelessness sometimes looks different than we think it does. It could be a single person, a parent with children, a relative, such as an aunt, uncle, or even grandparents with children.

I learned some things that I didn't know about how The Samaritan Inn serves the community. I'm glad that I was able to attend. I'll put a link in the comments if you'd like to learn more about them. They just broke ground on their pet shelter. Oh! They are hosting a Pickleball Tournament next weekend, too. See the last photo for details. (You were missed and Happy Birthday, Tonya Wi******er.)

Jared Tye and Bruce Quernemoen, the Empower McKinney group is a little different kind of networking. I can see it gaining popularity.

Shot down over the Demilitarized Zone in April 1972, Air Force Capt. William Henderson became one of the many names carried on the MIA lists of the Vietnam War.

The rest of the story was something Hollywood decided needed to be told. An article in the Milwaukee Journal by Anne E. Schwartz entitled, "Hero gets to see self portrayed in film" states, "It is unlikely that anyone in the Southtown movie theater in West Allis took a second glance at Bill and Colleen Henderson as they sat and watched 'Bat-21' last week. They might have taken notice had they known that Henderson was one of the real-life pilots being portrayed on the screen by actor Danny Glover."

This book is a compilation of newspaper articles and memorabilia that the Henderson family had accumulated over Captain Henderson's lifetime.

His daughter, Tracy, and I had never met before today, though we had talked several times over the phone and online to create this documented history for her dad's Celebration of Life. Meeting her was like reconnecting with an old friend.

There is an overwhelming sense of honor for me to help other people share their stories so they can pass them on to future heirs. My sister Kristina's legacy continues through my work.
