Huge shout out to HARMAN Photo for sending me this new film to test. Turned out pretty damn dope if you ask me. Took a bit/a lot to get there but you can read all about that in depth at theFINDlab — Official post they make today.
This is Harman Griffin 200 which I rated at 320 and developed normal. And then ran it 2 more times through the roller transports developer to remove the heavy silver. The first run scans looked pretty bad in terms of color and density (slide 5 & 10 but worse). But the 2nd run through was wildly better and the third was even better.
And that’s what you’re looking at. Film that was developed once and then run through the machine 2 more times. Basically running it through the bleach a 2nd or 3rd time removes the excess silver. This film has a rather high silver content and because it’s missing the orange layer the color when scanned on a Frontier, is well, what I’ve seen in that Lucky 200 film as well. They recommended scanning on a Frontier which is what we did. And a couple frames we tried DSLR scanning because the color was so bad. DSLR scanned results looked considerably better out the gate but ain’t no serious lab got time for that. We won’t be running film through the machine more than once for clients so be prepared for well, weird or incorrect color.
It’s being sold for $8.99 a roll 35mm or 120 which is amazing in this economy. That’s pretty great and all but they have to address this heavy silver problem. No lab is going to run your film through their processor 2-3 times without having to charge you considerably more.
All that said, hats off to you Harman, ya keep impressing me. And this means even more stuff is coming down the pipe.
