I may or may not have bought another film camera this weekend 🫣. Did I need it? Debatable haha 🤷‍♀️

But I just love film. The textures, the tones, the slower pace. It makes me slow down and pay attention in a different way than digital does.

Honestly, I think that’s why I love using film for our everyday family photos too. I’ve switched from the phone to mostly just film cameras. It feels more intentional. Less immediacy. More time actually spent in the moment. Capturing what I really want to remember instead of trying to capture everything or make anything feel “perfect.”

And the joy of getting film scans back honestly reminds me of going to get disposable cameras developed as a kid. Pure joy.

Goal for my sessions for the second half of 2026: use more film, even when it’s tricky, try new film stocks, get a little more creative 🎞️

Moms with little ones and a new baby - I’ve got you.

I know how easy it is to stress before photos, wondering if your kids will cooperate, want to be held, or even stay near you for more than two seconds.

But here’s the truth: kids (especially toddlers) are going to be exactly who they are that day. Sometimes they’re snuggly. Sometimes they’re wild. Sometimes they want just want snacks and space.

And yes - sometimes toddlers melt down. Sometimes they need breaks throughout the whole session. Sometimes they want to be held the entire time or run in the opposite direction every chance they get.

I promise that does not mean your session is ruined.

Because that’s where I come in.

I specifically focus on young families, toddler dynamics, and all the beautiful chaos that comes with this season of life. I know what those early newborn days feel like. The overstimulation, the emotions, the trying to juggle everyone’s needs at once.

So when your toddler tells me “bye” one minute after meeting me (lol) or needs extra comfort the whole session… I’m not worried one bit. Promise.

I’ve got patience, plenty of tricks up my sleeve, and tons of experience working with little ones exactly as they are. Plus I’ve got an eye at seeing the beauty no matter what!

Your job is simply to love on your babies. My job is to take care of the rest.

And the end result will be a gallery full of meaningful, beautiful images you’ll want framed all over your home.

I must admit that Justin Bieber’s new album has been my entire personality the past few weeks...

I haven’t listened to him since “Baby” was a hit but somehow here we are.

Not me becoming a Belieber in my mid 30s 🫣.

(Also… this session was so special. A photo session with your mom is always such a meaningful gift).

I don’t think I ever really considered myself “an artist.”

Photography wasn’t something I ever imagined I’d get to turn into a career. Even when I first picked up a camera, I don’t think I saw myself as a creative person in that way.

Honestly, the title of “artist” still feels kind of big to me sometimes. But photography is art.

And I think family photography deserves to be seen that way too. The tenderness of motherhood. The chaos of little kids running around while you’re trying to hold onto one quiet moment. The tiny details that change so quickly.

Becoming a mom changed the way I pay attention to things and it shapes my work so much now - the little giggles and snuggles, the beauty in ordinary moments, the connection that exists right in the middle of the chaos.

I think I’m still figuring out what it means to see myself as an artist. But I hope my work always stays inspired by family, connection, and the little moments that I know matter so much.

I’m finishing up some motherhood galleries from my annual Motherhood Event and these sessions are always such a joy.

Motherhood sessions are some of my favorite sessions to photograph. And just fyi they don’t have to happen only during my annual Motherhood Event each spring. I’ve gotten to meet so many new babies lately and it’s truly such a joy. Those first few months are tender, joyful, exhausting, and so beautiful all at once. And their little baby details change so quickly.

I spend a lot of my time at home lately repeating the same phrase…“nothing ever has to be perfect.”

My little girl is a tiny bit of a perfectionist, and it’s something we’re working through almost daily. Crafts, spelling, math, drawings… you name it.

I started saying this when she was younger and it's a phrase that we use a lot - "nothing ever has to be perfect. ever.”

And now she says it back to me. I’ll start the phrase “nothing ever has to be…” and she (usually a little reluctantly) finishes the sentence.

It’s become a thing in our house. A way to handle things when something isn’t going quite how we hoped. Or something we say right before we do something new or challenging.

And honestly it’s a reminder I probably need just as much.

Because nothing really is perfect. And I don’t think it’s supposed to be.

Things feel more enjoyable when we stop trying to make everything that way. Most of the time, it’s already "perfect" in its own way.

A little reminder that your home is a perfect place for family photos.

We had planned to take these outside, but the wind and unexpected cold front in March had other plans… so we pivoted.

And honestly, I love sessions at home. The kids are usually more comfortable, no one has to rush out the door, and it just feels easier. Plus snacks are literally steps away (iykyk).

I know sometimes the thought of doing photos at home can make you feel like everything needs to be spotless, but truly, from one busy mom to another… it doesn’t. Your house doesn’t need to look a certain way. We’ll find the best light and settle in there.

With summer coming (and that heat 🙃), don’t rule it out. The long evenings, popsicles out back, everyone just together… that’s the kind of thing you’ll want to remember.
