Everything we hold dear is imperfect, and that’s what we love about it.

I love collecting things. I’ve always been a collector.

It used to be stickers, coins, and patches.

Now it’s art, hand made objects and memories. I love to find special things, especially when we travel. A piece of art, a unique piece of jewelry, or film photos of our travels. I love to surround myself in them. To fill my house with meaning so that every day I’m fondly reminded of where they came from.

That’s what makes photos so special. It’s not about perfection. It’s about transporting you to another time. A time maybe you wish you could relive or a reminder of times past.

The hard thing about deciding to take the photo is being able to step outside the mundane, the routine of it all, or the tough stuff to see that in year to come you will look back on this time with a fondness. So you just have to trust. Trust that this time right now, not matter how ‘normal’ it feels, is worth remembering.

Summer has really gotten away from me and I always have mixed feelings about it coming to an end.

I will miss the carefree, slow days and am also looking forward to the structure and sense of routine again.

What you’re hiring a photographer for is their perspective. Their eye. The way they see things.

You hire a photographer to tell a story. That story might be a snapshot of your morning routine, or a family adventure or welcoming a new member to the family.

You hire them to turn ordinary moments into art. To see the mess, the small things that often get overlooked and weave them into your story.

Your photos are so much more than the click of a button. They take time, care and attention.

It’s the imperfect photos that I love even more with time.

The slightly blurry, the funny faces or the in between moments that take me straight back to what it felt like to be there.

Those are the ones that I cherish the most. The ones that truly get more valuable with time. The ones that you can’t replicate.

Photo sessions with kids rarely go as planned.

I completely understand the urge to control everything to get the exact outcome you had envisioned. However, when it comes to photos (and let’s be honest, maybe a lot of other things in life) it’s best to let go.

The best photos always come from letting the moments unfold as they will. Kids are the best at setting the stage for magic to unfold because they rarely want to perform for you. They have their own agenda.

I come to each session ready to look for the moments rather than orchestrate them. And what results from that is always better than I could have thought up if I tried.

I know it’s hard. Trust me, as someone who loves control, I really do. But I dare you to try it and see what happens.
