Nobody arrives in India neutral. You’ve already been told what it is — spiritual, overwhelming, life-changing. People hand you their epiphany before you’ve even landed.
Then you get there and it’s just Tuesday. A man cutting stone in the heat. A kid in a river. Someone who looks at your lens like he’s got somewhere to be, because he does. Nobody is performing. Nobody is trying to mean anything. That’s exactly why it does.
The mistake is looking for the country in the monuments. It isn’t there. It’s in whoever’s standing in front of them, getting on with a life you’ll never fully understand, and offering you tea anyway. The best frames I’ve ever taken here came from people who had no reason to give me their time and gave it anyway — a few seconds, no questions, nothing asked in return.
Happy Independence Day. Jai Hind 🇮🇳
