While the temperatures began to warm up and the sun began to shine, East Broad Top Railroad no. 19 hauls a freight special along the newly reopened southern portion of the railroad. Prior to last year, this portion of the line had not seen rail traffic since the 1950s.

This year's "'Toona" trip started out nicely, with a short stop to the 12th Street crossover in Altoona yielding some results. One of the first trains (a symbol I have since forgotten) had NS 4851, the TAG Heritage Unit in the lead.

Happy Mothers day, and happy (late) national train day!
Myself along with a number of photographers attended the final photo event yesterday featuring Conemaugh & Black Lick 111, prior to a planned repaint by the WMSR. This locomotive served Bethlehem Steel’s Johnstown Works, and was saved for preservation and operation by the Kovalchick family, McHugh Locomotive & Equipment, and the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad in 2025.

CNJ 113 during one of her last steam ups prior to the ongoing rebuild. Dak Dillon Photography with MPT Photography organized a photo event for the CNJ giant in May of 2024, one week before her last public run to the Saint Nicholas Breaker. The 0-6-0 would be positioned back and forth for multiple scenes as dusk fell.
The Railway Restoration Project 113 is currently asking for donations toward the rebuild and support toward building a structure to house the steamer. For more information, visit the Railway Restoration Project 113 page, and their online website at https://www.rrproject113.org/support .

Here's an oddity.... SEPTA PCC 2168. I do not tend to photograph much in the realm of public transit, especially if it doesn't couple to or with another rail riding pieces of equipment. However when driving back toward home base after a trip to the B&O Railroad Museum, we stopped by the Baltimore Streetcar Museum, Inc. and photographed the historic trolley car.

Steamtown night photoshoots are hard to go wrong with... even without the "Steam" in "Steamtown". This round of photos took place on Saturday August 30th on the second night of Railfest, and the second photoshoot of the three day weekend. Lighting and scenes were organized by Steve Barry Photography and Iron Horse Society. The shiny pair of ALCos made for very attractive night scenes.
