In Morgan Johnsonโs second grade classroom, curiosity is encouraged, mistakes are part of the process, and one small word carries a lot of power: โyet.โ
An adored Lower School teacher and Latin alumna (class of 2009), Johnson creates a classroom environment where students feel safe to try, fail, grow, and discover confidence in themselves along the way. From โGive and Getโ morning meetings and collaborative dinosaur books to idiom parades and โcontraction surgery,โ her classroom is filled with joy, creativity, and connection.
โI always tell students that my favorite word in the dictionary is โyet,โโ Johnson said. โBy this time in the year, if one of them says, โI canโt do this,โ the student sitting next to them will say, โYou canโt do that ๐ฆ๐๐ก.โโ
In our latest Spotlight feature, Johnson reflects on returning to the school that shaped her, the teachers who pushed her to grow, and the privilege of helping second graders become confident, curious learners themselves.
