On ๐ง๐ต๐๐ฟ๐๐ฑ๐ฎ๐, ๐๐๐ด๐๐๐ ๐ฎ๐ณ, ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฒ, the Fort Mill Fire Department and Town of Fort Mill celebrated an exciting milestone in ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ ๐ ๐ถ๐น๐น, ๐ฆ๐ผ๐๐๐ต ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ผ๐น๐ถ๐ป๐ฎ, as officials put shovels in the ground to officially break ground on the new Fort Mill Fire Department Station #3.
During the ceremony, ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ ๐ ๐ถ๐น๐น ๐๐ถ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ฒ๐ณ ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ฝ๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ช๐ถ๐น๐ธ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ผ๐ป spoke about the importance of Station #3 and what the addition will mean for the Townโs growing community. He emphasized that improving the distribution of firefighters and EMTs throughout Fort Mill will help reduce emergency response times โ making a critical difference when every second counts.
Wilkerson also reflected on the work that went into reaching the groundbreaking, noting that the project has been years in the making and would not have been possible without the support, coordination and cooperation of the Town of Fort Mill and its community partners.
๐ง๐ผ๐๐ป ๐ผ๐ณ ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ ๐ ๐ถ๐น๐น ๐ ๐ฎ๐๐ผ๐ฟ ๐๐๐๐ป๐ป ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐๐ฎ๐ด๐ฒ also recognized Chief Wilkerson for his leadership and vision in bringing the project to life, while thanking Town Council and Town staff for their continued support in making projects like the new fire station possible.
The addition of Station #3 represents another major investment in the safety and future of Fort Millโs growing community, providing the Fire Department with additional resources, greater operational capacity and room to grow for years to come.
The new approximately ๐ญ๐ฌ,๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ฌ-๐๐พ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฒ-๐ณ๐ผ๐ผ๐, ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด๐น๐ฒ-๐๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ ๐ฆ๐๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป #๐ฏ will mirror the design of Fort Mill Fire Departmentโs current Station #2 and will be located at 1655 Mason Bend Drive.
Construction of Station #3 is also connecting with another major project nearby, with excess soil from grading the firehouse site being provided for use at Atrium Healthโs new hospital site just to the south.
Station #3 will initially house a single engine company staffed by ๐ณ๐ผ๐๐ฟ ๐ณ๐๐น๐น-๐๐ถ๐บ๐ฒ ๐ณ๐ถ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ณ๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐/๐๐ ๐ง๐, with the facility designed to support up to eight personnel as staffing needs increase alongside Fort Millโs continued growth.
The stationโs two-bay design will be capable of accommodating ๐๐ฝ ๐๐ผ ๐ณ๐ผ๐๐ฟ ๐ณ๐ถ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐ฎ๐ฝ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐๐, giving the department room to expand operations over time. The facility will also house water rescue equipment and include offices, bedrooms and a kitchen for personnel working around the clock.
In addition, the new station will feature built-in capabilities to support ๐ฐ๐ผ๐ป๐ณ๐ถ๐ป๐ฒ๐ฑ-๐๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ฒ ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ฐ๐๐ฒ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ณ๐ถ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ณ๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ฏ๐ฎ๐ถ๐น๐ผ๐๐ ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ป๐ถ๐ป๐ด, providing firefighters with opportunities to conduct specialized training directly at the station.
Fort Mill Fire Department currently operates two fire stations within the Town โ Station #1 at 121 Tom Hall Street and Station #2 at 1245 Fort Mill Parkway. The addition of Station #3 will improve the distribution of emergency resources throughout the community while also helping ensure continuity of Town emergency operations should Town Hall or either existing fire station ever be impacted by an emergency or disaster.
The new firehouse was designed by ADW Architects, P.A., with Leitner Construction Company of the Carolinas serving as the projectโs contractor.
