So, What Is Luminar? (And Why I Keep Saying I’m a Creator?)

When I told people I’d been named a Luminar Creator, I got a lot of polite nods and a few blank stares. Fair enough. Let me fix that.

Luminar is a photo editing app from Skylum (https://skylum.com), a company with 16 years in the photo editing business. Skylum has launched 12 photo-editing products and has a team of more than 100 people predominantly in Kiev, Ukraine. Skylum serves over 1 million customers in more than 200 markets worldwide.

I’ve used Skylum software products since 2018. Sometimes I run Luminar on its own when processing my photographs. Sometimes I pair it with Adobe Lightroom Classic. What keeps me coming back to Luminar is that it keeps getting better, and the team really listens to user feedback. I expect to use this tool more, not less, in the years ahead.

So, what does the CREATOR role mean? Here’s the short version:
• Early access. I get to try new Luminar features and updates sooner, so you hear what works (and what doesn’t) from someone who has used it.
• Learning from the pros. I already join the weekly sessions with Vanelli, Luminar’s Director of Education, and I follow community voices like Jim Nix, Anthony Turnham, Dale Scott, and Holly Linton.
• A direct line to the team. Your questions and ideas can go straight from me to the people building Luminar.
• A community of photographers. I get to join a community of over 300K photographers and connect with like-minded creators, industry professionals, and experts to expand my knowledge and network.

I am a member of the KelbyOne Inner Circle. This month's assignment was to do some astrophotography. I went ahead and attempted to do some star trails using long exposures. This photo was taken over an hour with 30-second-long increments for exposure and then using the StarStax program, I was able to stack up all the images and build this very fascinating view. Please enjoy!

I was up in the Anacortes community forest lands this morning, and Heart Lake stopped me in my tracks with its fall color and glassy reflections. Gold trees, deep green firs, and bright blue water, all doubled on the surface. If you'd love this calm on your wall, you can order a print on my website.

Lens Culture Magazine is hosting a black-and-white photography contest. The deadline is October 14th.

I decided to submit the attached five photographs in order to show off the beauty of the North Cascades mountains, including the dormant volcano, Mount Baker, and Mount Shuksan. I also wanted to show off some of the amazing beauty in the area that even shows up in a black-and-white photograph. Please enjoy these photographs.
