I recently visited Skookumchuck Narrows, a world-renowned natural phenomenon on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia where 200 billion gallons of tidal saltwater squeeze through a narrow channel. It creates one of the fastest tidal rapids in the world, generating massive standing waves, turbulent whitewater, and giant whirlpools that attract thrill-seeking kayakers.
It's a 2.5 mile hike through a beautiful rainforest to get to the narrows. There were some kayakers there when we arrived but they never did paddle out into the current. I imagine they were waiting for the tide to slow down a bit.
