Wheels, wheels, everywhere! On a sun-splashed Sunday afternoon, hundreds gathered on Commercial Avenue for the 2026 Open Streets event. An amazing afternoon featuring event participants ranging from the Fidalgo Mountain Bikers to Island Health, from Kiwanis to the Anacortes Fire Department. The Skagit Bicycle Club was popular with an offer of free bike decorating for children. Organizers included volunteer Josh Gates and event sponsors included Marathon Refinery. Let's do it again next year!

While wheels turned, music filled the air today at the 2026 Open Streets event in downtown Anacortes. Pictured here are the Savage Blues Band at the Rockfish stage and Happy Accident at the Dockside Dogs stage. People of all ages gathered on Commercial Avenue as part of the street was closed to traffic. Free-wheelers ranged from tiny pedal bikes to e-bikes, scooters to wheeled skateboards. Lots of vendors, service organizations, police and fire department representatives. Thanks to organizers and sponsors. More photos to follow.

It was an exciting community celebration with a Hawaiian theme. Saturday the Salvation Army Anacortes Corps celebrated 120 years of service to this island community. Free food, games and giant inflatables drew a big crowd. Lots of kids, smiles and laughter. Thank you, Salvation Army, for service in the name of Jesus Christ.
