The second half of our journey started here in Bergen, the second largest city in Norway. Establish almost a thousand years ago, Bergen is a major trade port for Scandinavia. We spent two nights here enjoying a Funicular train ride up Mount Fløyen, touring the Bergenhus Fortress built in the 1240s and the famous quays of Bryggen(unfortunately no photos of Bryggen as it as raining very hard....

Recently, my wife, daughter and I spent a week exploring the beautiful country of Norway. Using planes, trains, boats and buses to explore big cities, small towns and of course, fjords. The trip started with the long plane flight from Seattle to Reykjavik, Iceland and then on to Oslo, Norway. Up early the next morning(definitely no where our body clocks were at), we took a very long train, another train, bus ride through the Norwegian countryside to the small town of Ålesund on the northwest coast....

A significant portion of the United States was recently treated to a rare and beautiful display of the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights. And I have to say, it was magnificent to see. I didn't need to venture far, the view above was from my front deck looking east just before 11pm. Earlier, I had headed down to Ship Harbor, a short walk from my home, where I thought that the pilings from the old fish cannery would make a nice foreground element....
