A quick message to say many thanks for coming along yesterday - 8th August- to Durham and get creative with your 50mm lens (or 40mm).
Its was great that the weather was spot on and there were plenty of opportunities for varied compositions,definitely saw some cool ones on camera screens.
Hope you picked up some different ideas and approaches to use in your photography, its great to see people swapping ideas and chatting.

Good Thursday Morning aperture lovers. Just to let you know coming along on 8th August 2026 at 11:00am there will be a 50mm meet up mission in Durham
We will be taking a walk along the river to capture natural scenes and heading into the city centre taking our 50mm to the streets. This meet will be at a reasonably swift pace where we can 'run and gun' with quick observation and decisive moments to capture. Lets put those primes to the test. Hope to see you there👍

Two problems when shooting coconut macaroon composites and food, the chocolate melts under the lights or it gets eaten before my batteries have charged. It also gets all over the floor so thats three.

Afternoon photo folks, just a quick message to say thank you to all who popped along for our motion and stillness in the environment shoot on Sat 11th in Durham. Good Blustery Afternoon to all camera aficionados. Just a very heads and shutters up to say coming along on Saturday 11th July at 11:30am will be a:
Street Photography: Passing Through: Motion and Stillness in Urban Life Meetup
Durham City
This session will be to focus on photographing the contrast between the movement of people and the stillness of the built environment. Using long exposure techniques in daylight, we'll create images that blur passersby into 'ghostly' trails while static elements remain crisp and defined.
A great opportunity for those wishing to put their skills to the test and eager to experiment with motion blur and movement with storytelling on the street. Bring a tripod or use a stable surface and consider ND filters or DIY darkening methods if conditions are bright. Manual settings and patience will be key to capturing the subtle stories of everyday life out and about.
Looking forward to this slightly different approach to street work

Summer is here so its time to unwrap that new camera from under the dust sheet and begin to shoot. On Saturday 27 June 2026, 10:00AM there will be a beginner's photography meet in Durham, so if new or beginning your photography adventure come along and gain solid understanding of the fundamental basics of photography, the nuts, bolts and buttons.
This session is designed to set you on the path to understanding your camera and how to create great shots through patience, practice and time all at your comfortable pace . With the confidence gained you will be able to approach many styles of photography from landscapes to portraits and all the other areas in between.
Most importantly you will learn to ENJOY using your camera, thats what its there for.

Taking ecomm shots of wrap-around glasses is rather frustrating, considering every reflection and scratch shouts at you under the strobes, no matter how dark the studio is. A satisfied client though which is the main thing.

Just to say a mighty big thank you to everyone who came along to the B&W Architecture photo mission on Saturday 13th in and around Durham. It was great to have smashing weather, a keen gang of camera lovers and very importantly a good crack.

Good Afternoon camera connoisseurs. Its a sunny Sunday so just a quick update to say there will be Black and White architectural photo meet on:

Saturday 13 June 2026, 10:30AM
Starting at DURHAM train station and heading into the city

This will be an ideal opportunity to explore and document the city and create images that ARE going to have an impact on the observers eye. We'll be considering the form and structures within the scenes and looking at both traditional and abstract ways to represent the environment, remembering that it doesn't always have to be the full building within the frame.
We'll be utilising our cameras mono modes and settings to get the subjective scene and impactful image.
Looking forward to seeing those images with camera chat along the way.

Can you believe it, the sun is shining on this Saturday morning (or have I left the light on again?) so to celebrate, coming along on Saturday 6 June 2026, 11:00AM there will be a hands on Still Life Studio workshop where we will be creating compositions looking at managing elements such as arranging, styling, and framing subjects to create a mood or narrative.
We'll consider object placement, form, texture, and colour and experiment with hard and soft light using continuous lighting, modifiers and reflectors, high-key and low-key effects or subtle colour arrangements anything that makes the image yours. Ideal for those familiar with aperture, shutter and ISO knowledge, but not fully necessary.
Looking forward to seeing creativity without any rain.
