Some of us don’t create to be seen, we create to finally see ourselves.

Have been wanting to share this one for a little while. Been working on how I wanted it to look, not perfectly black, wanted some texture. The light falls beautifully in this stable. One of the last evenings we had with her. Golden hour.

I love light. I love working with light.

September is now fully booked.
Booking October onwards. M x

Pushing myself to post bts, less perfect, more real life things. *twictches uncomfortably*
& the new instagram feature of different captions per image.
Here goes, my busy busy week!

Caveat. Not every week is like this by any stretch & though I am so grateful of it my goodness.

Monday
A shoot with two lovely girls I’ve been photographing at shows. A local one!

Mondays very sleepy model. He was such a good boy.
(A sneak peek from their shoot on the first slide)

Tuesday
Fit check at evening show jumping at Radfords.
The penultimate one. (Last one of summer tomo eve) where has summer gone.
I’ve loved this summer so much.

Wednesday
An 8am mentoring call with a very keen bean. Loved this so much. It reminded me of how much I love teaching. Then an evening shoot where I didn’t take any bts. But with a previous client. It’s so lovely being asked back.

Thursday
My first time doing this pony clubs camp, but a pc I think I knew the most people out of. I think this was my 5th camp of summer. It honked it down!

Friday
Riding my Lola around a few of our fields. Walk work is boring & I think we both enjoyed a change of scenery.

Then meeting my friend Jess for a cuppa, cake & all the chats. Life is busy but it’s so good to make time for your friends. Felt very recharged afterwards.

Saturday
Felt massively unproductive despite 10k steps & did try and do a bit. Went for a mental health walk, kitty has been in more than I’d like. I think it benefitted us all.

Back for homemade pizza. Stunnin.

Sunday
A gorgeous evening shoot not too far from home. The evening light really does light up my soul. Drove back thanking the universe for a wonderful summer. So so grateful.

If you made it this far comment me a 💖💖big love, Martha xx

Because every pony needs their own little person to love and be loved by.

We watched Priscilla last night on Netflix. Oh my goodness I thought I was going to be watching an idyllic love story. Clearly I’ve lived under a rock.
Have you seen it? What do you think about the story/ relationship? I know it’s clearly not a simple thing. He can’t have had it easy at all. But wow!

I’m really in peak equine photographer season right now. My diary couldn’t be fuller.
Kids going back to school, fitting in shoots where I can. Mentoring tutorials, events, camps & editing.

All while trying to socialise & enjoy summer. Hate that word balance as I’m not sure we ever truly have one. But life is so very good.

Would love to get you in for autumn winter if you said you’d book your shoot with your horse this year. I’ve been thinking alot about what autumn will look like. I’m assuming leaves will fall earlier with the summer that we are having.

A conversation we have been having is about how these summer shoots really are going to be such a time stamp in our lives with the beige fields.

Lots of love. Martha x

Take this as your sign to book the shoot whether that’s with me because you like me, the way I work & my style or someone more your vibe. 🥰💖✨

When this was taken just over an hour ago but it’s one of your nearest and dearest & you just cannot wait.

It’s been a long time since I’ve shot this late for those real golden colours. It was a request & I usually find earlier prettier. We got the best of both worlds. But I may be convinced again.

Someone once said to me that golden hour is very one note for a shoot and it is. But it’s sooo beautiful. I think if you have multiple shoots one definitely needs to be evening sun / golden hour. 🌅

The best weeks of summer are disappearing fast & my diary, faster…

Firstly, thank you. Thank you for every message, comment, the flowers and kind words about our beautiful Zophie. They’ve meant more than we can put into words.

I won’t pretend I’m completely ok. I’ve caught myself wondering why I still feel a little flat, then giving myself a hard time for feeling that way. I know grief doesn’t work like that, and I’m trying to be gentle with myself.

In some ways, losing Zoph has only strengthened what I already believed…

Please don’t wait.

There will never be the perfect time. Life changes quietly before we realise it. If there’s one thing these last few weeks have reminded me, there can never ever be too many photos.

If you’ve been thinking about celebrating your horse, let this be your reminder to do it while you can.

August now has just one space remaining. If you’d love it to be yours, send me a message as soon as you can. 🤍

Zophie & shaping my career as a photographer.

Because I want to keep writing about you & because the caption was overflowing in the last post.

Zophs never made being a model when I started out with photography, the easiest.
We’d bought the most pretty pony.
So naturally, I thought she would be the most angelic and photogenic.
I thought wrong. So wrong.
Ears flat back, queen of the mare stare.

She’s put up with so much so many ideas. She’s not been shy to say she’s not best pleased, but loved the pampers and attention really.

When we took her to prom she stood like an angel and adored all of the attention. (Everyone was there to see her right?)

Our last few shoots she was hilarious. It kind of prevented the crying (ok maybe not so much in those last ones, I was totally kidding myself thinking it wasn’t obvious I’d been crying even with editing)

But I’m so grateful to have had you in my life but also to teach me so much.
Martha Lily Photography would absolutely not be what it is today without you.

Book the photoshoot. I don’t care if your horse is naughty. I had one of the cheekiest.
Don’t wait.

Missing you Zoph, I accidentally made an extra Haynet for you today.
Martha. Xx
