John Mottershaw Photography Highly experienced food, wedding and travel photographer. As well as the UK, past commissions have included France, Spain, Italy & the USA. SOME BACKGROUND..

Please see my blog for more examples of my work: https://www.johnmottershaw.com/wedding-photography-blog/ Over the years I have photographed more than 400 weddings and I am one of only a very small number of wedding photographers in Sheffield and Yorkshire, Chesterfield and Derbyshire who specialise solely in wedding photography. I have developed an informal style which reflects the warmth and the

real joy of the day, avoiding the more usual manufactured “model shoot” style of photography. I work in a relaxed, informal and friendly way and I’m always keen to make the photography a thoroughly enjoyable part of the day for everyone involved. I am a qualified member of the British Institute of Professional Photography and represent the fourth generation of my family to work as professional photographers, a family that has been continuously in photographic processing and commercial and wedding photographers in Sheffield since 1870. I live in the Derbyshire Peak District village of Grindleford and love the rural life here, sharing it with my wife Helen, our ten year old daughter Emily and not to mention our springer spaniel who I’m afraid just has to greet clients when they visit! I’m a photographer to the core, having been in professional photography for 24 years, covering commercial, social and travel photography as well as processing and printing and stints in the darkroom. I have done travel commissions in France, Italy, Spain and America and have also contributed to a number of books. I set up on my own back in 1989 and in recent years have concentrated on the one area of photography that I have always loved the most – wedding photography. Processing and printing, both colour and black & white, is also a skill that I’ve always been passionate about, having learned a great deal in the fumes and heat of the professional laboratory, much of which is just as relevant today. I’m certainly not one of the “straight out of camera” photographers. Processing and printing is an art in itself and is becoming sadly neglected in this digital age. I would always suggest to clients that proper image processing and printing is an integral and essential part of high calibre wedding photography. If you would like to have a chat about your wedding, view some samples and albums and to see if I’m the person that you would like to photograph your special day, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

AN AWARD WINNING FRIED EGG

I was actually quite surprised when this image won an award with The Guild of Photographers this month.

I took this photograph for library use and also as something of a challenge. As a photograph it isn’t devastatingly beautiful but I had an image in my mind and once there it just had to be done.

The egg was fried on a normal gas hob but, due to lack of access for the camera and tripod, once the egg was nearly ready the pan was quickly transferred to to a portable camping stove on the table.

With careful distribution of the oil, some mixed herbs and a few drops of water to create a bit of steam, the frames were taken.

To be honest, I would have liked to have cooked the egg for a little longer, but this was already the third attempt and we were hungry. Lunch was nice that day!

This was taken as the egg was actually cooking, lit with a single light off to the left side.
