𝑅😍𝑒 𝒟𝑒𝑒𝓇 𝒾𝓃 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝑔𝓇𝒶𝓈𝓈 - 🦌
Roe Deer in the grass, its 3-pointed antlers mimicking the grass for perfect camouflage. I could only just see him, but he could clearly see me, gaze fixed on the camera lens for this eye-level picture.

"𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘴 𝘜𝘱"

The female red deer always group together, as the saying goes, "safety in numbers”. I captured this image as they grouped, all pretty much within the camera's line of sight, making them look more huddled together than they actually were for this multiple head shot.. It doesn't matter how quiet or camouflaged you are, female deer will always spot you. The Male stags are far less observant in comparison and often rely on the females spotting you for their advanced warning of human presence.

“𝘉𝘭𝘶𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘢𝘵 - 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘔𝘢𝘨𝘱𝘪𝘦”

The magpie is a clever bird; it steals eggs delivered by the milkman and can open a pint of milk to steal the cream before I have a chance to enjoy it. However, only in a photo can you appreciate its incredible plumage. We think of the magpie as the black and white bird, but the blues in its feathers are shades of colour to marvel at. As I was eyeing it, its beautiful, feathery coat of white, black, and glorious blue, it had one eye on me at all times, perhaps wondering if I knew it was the milk thief…..

I captured this photo of a handsome male Mandarin duck skimming across the water's surface as it takes flight from a lake. The camera lens was almost touching the water to achieve this eye-level perspective.

"𝘉𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳", 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘢𝘳𝘯 𝘰𝘸𝘭, 𝘪𝘯 𝘧𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 - 🦉

"Buster", the barn owl, in flight. Buster is a super cute barn owl that's raised two separate broods of owlets with two different female owls. Buster is more of a lover than a fighter, and the female barn owls can't get enough of him! "𝙁𝙡𝙮 𝙁𝙞𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜" - A mother moorhen catches a fly and feeds it to her chick💕

A moorhen catches a fly and feeds it to a hungry chick. It doesn't come any cuter than this. Moorhens will eat a wide variety of foods, and they can often be seen grazing in and out of the water. I captured this shot, like most of my water-based photography, lying low with the camera just above the waterline.

Our beautiful Barn Owl "Mia" has had the first of her brood, tiny "Ace". Mother and owlet are both doing well. Proud father "Buster" is keeping them well supplied with voles and other treats.

Although we haven't managed to track her ring yet, we know from Buster's ring that he was born a couple of years ago on the Longshaw Estate, home to this year's Springwatch. This is just a short flight from where they currently reside.

- "𝘉𝘪𝘨 𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 𝘥𝘳𝘪𝘱" - With the camera only just skimming the water, I snapped this eye-level shot of a mandarin duck just after dipping its beak in the water 😍😊

- 𝘈𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘥𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘨? - 𝘈𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘴𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨? 😊💕
The image shows two female red deer establishing the pecking order in their group. While the male deer will rut even at a very young age, the females will rise on their hind legs and "box" to gain status and grab the male's attention. It all sounds like a night out in Chesterfield years ago, although the deer aren't quite as hairy as the boxing women!
