I don’t think practice makes perfect and I’m not sure perfect should be the aim anyway! But the more you practise, the less you have to consciously think about settings, focus and composition. Your camera starts to feel more familiar, you notice photographic possibilities more quickly and gradually, more of those decisions become instinctive.

That’s exactly what 30 Days of Photography is designed to encourage: one achievable challenge each day to help you use what you know and develop your eye.

We start on Tuesday. You can take part with a phone or camera, and it’s £10 for the full 30 days. Find out more and join us through the link in my bio.

Still wondering whether to join in the 30 Day Photography Challenge in September? Here's a taster of what the daily prompt might look like. You'll be in a private WhatsApp group and can see how other people interpret the challenge and chat about what camera or phone settings people have used or how they've edited it. Here’s a little taste of the sort of thing we’ll be doing during 30 Days of Photography.

Nothing complicated - just one achievable idea each day to help you slow down, notice more and practise making thoughtful photographs.

Just back from a wonderful holiday in Cornwall, staying near Mevagissey. The weather was beautiful and I saw stunning photo opportunities everywhere. Amazing light, glorious views, delicious food, always something going on. Then I got home to piles of washing and normality hit like a train! When will I next want to pick up my camera again? Sound familiar? That’s why I’ve created 30 Days Of Photography to give you a reason to take at least one photo everyday. Details coming very very soon!

Cornwall 2026 photo dump. Based in a beautiful little cottage in Portmellon, walks to Megavissey, little trip to Charlestown, but mainly just chilling, swimming, watching the world go by.

I am LOVING my new Fujifilm X-E5 and am enjoying shooting with it a bit differently. I often use full AUTO mode, even though I make a living from showing people how to get off Auto! This camera has made me think about when settings really matter and when I’d rather let the camera deal with them whilst I concentrate on what I’m seeing. Take a look at my latest blog post to see why I love this camera so much but don’t think you should rush out and buy one!

I had more fun (and more success!) photographing people enjoying the eclipse than capturing the eclipse itself. We were celebrating a 60th birthday with a swim and picnic, very under prepared to actually view the eclipse. And then a young family gave us one of their pairs of eclipse glasses and we took turns witnessing it. Magical evening all round. Captured with the Fujifilm x-e5 and 23mm lens.

Don’t fall into the trap of just taking photos of the picture perfect postcard views. Take those, but then think about capturing what makes where you are and who you are with so special. Capture moments, capture details, go beyond the obvious. Those are the photos you’ll treasure later. Read my blog post: Better Holidays: Capture Moments Not Just The View. Link in bio
