Dolly was always one of those people who inspired me.

Maybe it was because music was such a huge part of my life for so long. I was a singer. I led a band. Music was how I expressed myself, connected with people, and honestly… a pretty big part of who I was.

And then one day, I took a risk.

I quit my job. I invested in myself. And I went all in on wedding photography.

I had no idea what was around the corner. I just knew I couldn’t find out if I stayed exactly where I was.

And I think about that a lot.

Because if I had let the fear of failing keep me from taking that leap… where would I be right now?

I’m not going to chalk that decision up to Dolly. But I do think there’s something incredibly powerful about having people like her in the world. People who say the things that make you sit up a little straighter. Who remind you that playing it safe isn’t the same thing as living.

She once said:

“ Nobody knows what’s around the corner, but I know one thing. If you keep yourself out of the game for fear of losing, there is no way on this earth you’re going to win.”

And now, somehow, I’m doing it again.

Taking another risk. Starting another chapter. Launching Iconic Elopements and putting myself back in the game.

I have absolutely no idea what’s around the corner.

But I’m hoping it’s something pretty damn good.

Dolly’s passing has put me in a place of reflection. I don’t think I’ll ever fully wrap my head around the number of lives she touched, encouraged, changed, entertained and inspired simply by being unapologetically herself.

So thank you, Dolly.

For the music. For the wisdom. For the example.

And for reminding so many of us that sometimes, you just have to take the damn risk.

You’ll be missed 🤍

When it came to finding a photographer for my wedding, I remembered Krysta from a previous wedding I was in and I knew she was the one I wanted for my day! Krysta is so kind, fun and professional. She not only is there to capture the day as beautifully as she does, but she is also there to help in anyway that she can. She makes the experience so fun for even the most awkward couples/families. She is able to bring people out of their shells to capture the most amazing photos. She is really quick at answering any questions you have and at delivering the results afterwards. I highly recommend using Krysta for your big day!

Editorial vs candid wedding photography and why you need to know the difference before you book 👀

Not all wedding photos are created the same and that’s actually a good thing 🤍

One of the biggest differences you’ll notice when looking at photographers is their posing style + editing style.

Some photographers focus on:
✨ natural movement + candid moments
✨ true toned, timeless editing

Others lean more into:
✨ editorial, fashion-inspired posing
✨ softer, moodier, film-style tones

Neither is better. Just different.

But here’s the part most people don’t realize…

👉 Those styles aren’t something we just “switch on” or change after the fact.

The way your photographer shoots, directs, and edits is all connected. It’s a signature style. It’s years of refining how we see and capture a wedding day.

On my website, emails and contract I make sure my clients know what my style is and that what I deliver will be consistent with what they see in my portfolio. It’s so important to me that you don’t hire me just because I have a nice camera, you should hire me because my style resonates with you.

Because the best photos happen when:
✨ you trust the artist you hired
✨ you love their work as-is
✨ you let them do what they do best

For example my approach is very much about:
🤍 natural movement over stiff posing
🤍 guiding you so nothing feels awkward
🤍 capturing real connection, not forced moments
🤍 clean, timeless edits that won’t feel dated in 10 years

And that’s intentional.

If you’re drawn to something more editorial or heavily stylized that’s okay too!

There are incredibly talented photographers who specialize in that.

Because at the end of the day…
👉 you wouldn’t ask your family doctor to perform brain surgery, right? 😅
Same idea here.

The key is:
👉 Don’t try to change the artist choose the one whose work already feels like you.

Because when it aligns…

That’s when the magic happens ✨

I’m curious, are you more drawn to editorial or candid photography? And why? Tell me below 👇

I swear…my couples who say they’re the most awkward?

They always end up with the BEST photos.

Because they’re not trying to “pose” perfectly. They’re just in it, being themselves, listening, and staying present.

Honestly, it’s usually the people who try to pose that end up looking the most stiff and uncomfortable on camera.

And I promise I’m not going to put you into anything awkward and tell you to “just smile” 😅
That’s honestly the worst.

I’ll guide you the whole time with little prompts and movement so it never feels forced.

We’ll walk, chat, laugh, get to know each other and half the time you won’t even realize I’m taking the photo.

That’s where the magic actually happens. 🪄

After 20 years of doing this, I’ve learned that the best photos aren’t the perfectly posed ones, they’re the in-between moments.

When you’re not overthinking it. When you’re just you.

So if you think you’re awkward, you’re actually my type. 👋🏻

And I’ve got you the whole way through 🤍

If you want photos that feel natural and not awkward, we should probably chat.

Be honest, on a scale of 1–10, how awkward are you in front of the camera? 👀
