Such a fun afternoon at the Haig Neighbours Association Garden Party! 🌻🎉

I always love events like this — neighbours catching up, kids having fun, live music, local makers and lots of great food.

A big thank you to Haig Neighbours Association for organizing the 4th annual Garden Party, and to all of the vendors who came out and helped make it such a great neighbourhood event.

I definitely didn’t leave empty-handed — I picked up some delicious treats from Black Bear Bakery and Sprout & Sparrow, a beautiful watercolour from The Green Windowsill, and some treats for the pups from Sparkles. 🐾

Thanks to everyone who stopped to say hello and chat. Such a lovely way to spend an afternoon in the Haig! 💛

Today, we celebrated 191 years of Emancipation Day and the 175th anniversary of Harriet Tubman’s arrival in St. Catharines.

Harriet Tubman made our city her home and a base for her work on the Underground Railroad. From here, she planned rescue missions, supported freedom seekers, brought her parents to safety and worshipped at Salem Chapel BME Church.

We also learned more about former St. Catharines Police Chief Adam Montgomery, whose protection helped prevent freedom seekers from being captured and returned to enslavement.

The new Tubman Tours Canada app will help residents and visitors explore local sites connected to Harriet Tubman and St. Catharines’ Black history.

A heartfelt thank you to Rochelle Bush for always teaching us more about Harriet Tubman, Salem Chapel BME Church and our city’s history.

Thank you as well to BlackOwned905 and Emancipation Day St. Catharines for bringing Emancipation Day celebrations downtown. I’m looking forward to continuing the celebrations tomorrow at Lakeside Park.

Now this is something to celebrate! 🎉🍽️

A huge congratulations to the St. Catharines businesses featured in The Globe and Mail:

✨ oddBird.
✨ oddBar.
✨ Fat Rabbit
✨ Les Incompetents
✨ Beechwood Doughnuts

To be recognized in one of Canada’s national newspapers is an incredible achievement and a testament to the passion, creativity, and hard work of the people behind these businesses.

St. Catharines has always been known for punching above its weight—and we don’t just do it, we excel at it.

Our city continues to earn a reputation as one of Ontario’s most exciting culinary destinations because of entrepreneurs who dream big, take risks, and create unforgettable experiences. Every one of these businesses is helping put St. Catharines on the map, attracting visitors, supporting our local economy, and showcasing the incredible talent we have right here at home.

Congratulations again to everyone featured. Thank you for making St. Catharines a destination worth travelling for—and a city we’re incredibly proud to call home. Here’s to continuing to punch above our weight and showing the rest of Canada what makes our city so special! ❤️🍽️

The images tell the story.

Smoke from the wildfires burning across Northern Ontario has reached Southern Ontario, reminding us just how far-reaching these devastating fires have become.

As I look at these maps today, my thoughts are with everyone affected—especially the many Indigenous communities that have been forced to evacuate their homes, along with the firefighters and emergency responders working tirelessly to protect lives and communities.

Here in St. Catharines, it’s also an important reminder to pay attention to the air quality. If you have a respiratory condition, are an older adult, or have young children, consider limiting prolonged time outdoors while conditions remain poor.

Please take care of yourselves, check in on those who may be more vulnerable, and keep everyone impacted by these fires in your thoughts.

Today was an incredibly special day for our family.

We celebrated Jack’s high school graduation 🎓and my Mom’s birthday 💐— two milestones, one beautiful day, and so much to be grateful for.

It’s on days like this that I especially wish my Dad was here with us, with a smile on his face and joy in his eyes. I know he is so proud and so happy.

Huge congratulations to Jack on your graduation. We are all so incredibly proud of you and excited for everything ahead.

As Dr. Seuss reminds us: “Congratulations! Today is your day. You’re off to Great Places! You’re off and away!”

Happy Birthday to my Mom — a woman who has taught us to enjoy a nice cool beverage, appreciate a good show tune, and never turn down a delicious meal.

In true Broadway fashion, Mom, as the song goes, “Don’t tell me not to live, just sit and putter. Life’s candy and the sun’s a ball of butter. Don’t bring around a cloud to rain on my parade.”

What a beautiful day celebrating two people we love so much.

Spent some time today on a ride along with Fire Station 1 - Platoon 4—and I just want to say thank you.

Seeing our firefighters in action is always impressive, but what stood out just as much was watching them share their knowledge, experience, and genuine love of the job with local high school students. That kind of mentorship matters. It shapes the next generation and shows what service to your community really looks like.

One of the real privileges of this role is getting a behind-the-scenes look—not just at the work, but at the people. Hearing their stories, learning about their families, their connection to our community, and the challenges they face every day gives me a deeper understanding of what it takes to keep St. Catharines safe.

To Fire Services Fire Station 1 Platoon 4—thank you for your professionalism, your openness, and your commitment to both protecting and inspiring our community.
