I think one of the most beautiful (and heartbreaking) things about motherhood is that we never really know which moments we’ll miss until they’re gone.
And it’s rarely the big, extraordinary things.
It’s the weight of your baby sleeping against your chest. The little voice asking to be picked up. The wild laughter, the messy hair, the tiny hands that always seem to find yours.
The things we experience a hundred times without realizing that one day, we’ll experience them for the last time.
Being a mama myself has changed the way I see all of this. And lately, it’s been changing the way I want to photograph it, too.
I’m finding myself wanting to slow down within my sessions. Not to capture fewer moments, but to give them more room to unfold.
And there’s something I want every family who steps in front of my camera to know.
You don’t have to spend our session trying to make everything picture-perfect.
You don’t need to constantly remind your children to smile, look at me, or stand where I put them.
If they’re being silly, be silly with them. If they’re running, chase them. If they’re climbing all over you, turn it into a game. If they reach for you, scoop them up. If they want to snuggle, hold them close.
Of course, I’ll guide you. We’ll find the beautiful light and create those timeless family portraits. But I also want you to feel comfortable enough to let your guard down, to be playful, affectionate, and embrace the unexpected.
Because sometimes my favourite photograph is the one that happens when everyone forgets I’m even there.
I don’t want to simply show you what your family looked like in this season.
I want to remind you what it felt like.
And when your children look back at these photographs someday, I don’t just want them to see how much you loved them.
I want them to see how much you loved being with them.
This season, exactly as it is, deserves to be remembered. 🤎
