National Truth and Reconciliation Day - September 30, 2024
How are you spending this relatively new day of recognition in Canada? Are you listening? Are you learning? Have you truly heard? I hope you’ve taken a moment to reflect on the significance of this day in Canadian history.
As a Métis person, although I only discovered my heritage about seven years ago, I’ve been deeply immersing myself in the community ever since. I listen to the stories and teachings of Métis, Inuit, and First Nations peoples—stories that are both heartbreaking and inspiring. It's incredible to witness the immense challenges Indigenous peoples have overcome, and a reminder that "We are still here."
For me, this day serves as a reminder to honor those who suffered and were lost, while also celebrating the resilience and enduring spirit of the original peoples of this land. There are so many resources available to learn more about Canada’s First Peoples. I encourage you to take the time to listen, to learn, and to truly hear.
