SUNRISE SESSION
Oh what an adventure this was!!! Waking at 3am to hit the road for a maternity family session that was a guaranteed show stopper. Being our third maternity photoshoot together, we already knew our enthusiasm and quest for the unique was matched. i absolutely adore working with my families that I have known for years as it allows us all to lean into the trust and I know we share the same vision. There is such a freedom in that, it almost feels like our secret sauce. The two dresses we used were designed and made by me (one of which was hot off the machine at 10.30 the night before.. who needs sleep when a location calls on a new gown!). Torches and jumpers were packed and I absolutely loved the feeling of going in an adventure in nature to celebrate this family growing together.

SOME SESSIONS JUST FEEL LIKE HOME.

This gorgeous crew let me into their world for a morning of tangled hair, sleepy newborn snuggles and a big brother and sister who couldn’t get enough of the new baby smell. There’s nothing staged about moments like these - just real love, real chaos, and the perfection of imperfection playing out right in front of my lens.

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?
When I left the hospital with my first born, I kept checking over my shoulder.. are they SERIOUSLY letting me leave with this perfectly perfect little life in my arms..? It was almost unbelievable. It felt like there was more supervision trying to get a driving license.. In the car we went, driving ever so carefully, Mal driving, myself in the back with Charlotte and like THAT we were parents! I remember giving Charlotte a house tour.. I’m not sure why… as my arms were already her home.. however, that was the day where she graced us with the title of Mum and Dad and I still wonder how I managed to be this blessed to call our children our own. That first journey home is such a milestone in the journey of parenthood, am I right?

I SAW THAT!!
I love getting amongst your bubble during family shoot’s - (when you allow me to get right in there!) you will unconsciously lean into your children’s soft hair, kiss the tip of their nose or adjust the flick of their hair behind their little ears. When I say to you, “forget about me” as I raise my giant black camera at you.. I know it seems close to impossible to do so. But what I really mean is, forget about me..! Do what you do, when you’re not feeling observed… because THEN your instincts kick in. You are no longer trying to say “cheese” (which we do not do.. it’s fromage!), you are gently falling into the fold of your very familiar rhythm. THAT is when the magic starts to fizz.. it doesn’t look like magic to you in the moment.. but years down the track, you daughter will be reminded of the many times you leant into her nose, or how you would kiss you son’s cheeks so hard that his face looks like a burger bun! That is how we pour feelings into pixels… it’s not always the image itself but the reminder of familiarity that is your family’s unique recipe.

THE MOMENTS YOU CAN KEEP.
In the haze of bringing a new life into the world, our familiar shifts. Noises become louder, lights become brighter and your protection becomes stronger. As our sense of time can shift, as our nights and days blur, the moments you wish to bottle up are soaked in longing along with the chaos of navigating the newborn world. Taking a pause, inhaling and treasuring this time is one of my deep beliefs. The cusp of life, love and connection.. it’s everything.

Pregnancy is a study in a quiet power.

Women continue to lead, create, work, nurture, and move through the demands of everyday life whilst, simultaneously, forming brains for tomorrow’s thoughts, growing lungs that will soon take their first breath, shaping hands that will be held.. building a human being with their own body.

Not fragile.
Not passive.
Extraordinary in its precision and strength.

It is living art. And it deserves to be captured with the reverence it holds.

WHEN MY 12 YEAR OLD CREATES MY REEL..
She nailed it!! Also- watch for one of my mini’s taking her very first step!!!
Charlotte loves to come and assist at the studio. As we were driving home today, she said that she loved that she could learn along side me, help other families, work on her social skills and just be with me. If that isn’t the most beautiful, accidental mother’s day gift, I don’t know what is!! So, to all the families that came in this weekend, thank YOU for inadvertently gifting me my Mother’s Day gift early!!! Also, for making my Smoosh (Charlotte) feel so valued and appreciated.. all of you were a part of making my heart explode today.
Charlotte was so excited to see yesterday’s reel, that I handed over the creative reigns today and asked her to produce her own reel.. how did she go?!? As a first time, BTS producer.. I think she did incredibly well (ummm hello 80’s soundtrack, you lil hipster!). FYI she has zero exposure to social media, doesn’t have an account or really cares about the social-sphere that you can’t live in real life. Today, I have benefited from her fresh take on socials.. and I love it. (proud Mama will be quiet now!!).

2.33 (yep 3 mins later) - nourishment with my home made sick kick (aka Charlotte)
