In 13 years of photographing weddings, and with almost 550 weddings under my belt, I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve had to pull out of a wedding due to illness (touch wood I’ve been pretty lucky on that front!).

Unfortunately, last Monday was one of those rare occasions. I was struck down with a virus that very much did NOT have ‘go to The Lodge Jamberoo Resort and Spa, photograph Dani & Alex’s wedding and give them your best self’ on its agenda.

The thing about being a wedding photographer is that there really are no sick days. Weddings don’t stop because you’re unwell, and when something like this happens, you need to have a contingency plan in place.

Thankfully, my friend Leanne Doyle Photography was available to step in and photograph their wedding for me, and here are a few photos from their day! Photographed by Leanne, edited by me.

I’ve made some wonderful connections with other local photographers over the years, and last Monday was a pretty good reminder of just how important those relationships are. Knowing I had someone I trusted to step in for me meant I could concentrate on getting better rather than stressing about a wedding I physically couldn’t photograph. A huge thank you to Leanne for stepping in at such short notice, and to Dani & Alex for being so understanding about the whole situation!

A few favourites from Eliza & Ahbi’s intimate wedding celebrations in Berry 💕

So much colour and so many beautiful intricate details! Between the gorgeous embroidery, colourful bangles, the henna adorning Eliza’s hands and their daughter getting amongst it all, I could have spent all day photographing every little detail.

Such a lovely celebration to be a part of, with the beautiful Berry countryside as the backdrop.

October has been a pretty significant month for Mel & Jake, so it only made sense that they’d choose October 10th to get married!

These two are actually a Tinder success story, having met in Wagga Wagga back in October 2022. Mel was finishing up uni, Jake was working nearby, and with Mel originally from Forbes and Jake from Burleigh Heads, their paths probably wouldn’t have crossed otherwise.

Fast forward to October 2024, when they got the keys to their first home, got engaged AND found out they were expecting their little boy. All in the same month!

And I have to share how Jake proposed, because it’s a good one. He hid the engagement ring inside a hideous DIY pendant light (their words, not mine!), knowing full well Mel would take one look at it and want it gone. His plan worked perfectly. Mel wanted the light taken down, and when it was removed, out came an engagement ring! 😂

Four years, a house, a baby and a business later, they made things official at St Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Kiama, with their little boy taking on the very important job of ring bearer.

Kiama is somewhere these two hope to call home one day, so with family and friends travelling from all over (many visiting the South Coast for the first time), they couldn’t think of a better place to celebrate. After the ceremony, it was just down the road to The Pavilion Kiama for the reception.

Why plan one wedding when you can plan THREE?!

With Kiley’s family mostly here in Australia and Daniel’s over in England, these two decided to take wedding planning to a whole new level, squeezing three celebrations across two countries into just one year!

Wedding 1 - The Legal One 💍
Back in April, Kiley & Daniel were officially married by Wedding Celebrant at Terara Riverside Gardens, surrounded by Kiley’s immediate family, while Daniel’s family tuned in from England via Zoom. It was a beautiful, intimate afternoon celebration, all wrapped up in just a few hours, and I absolutely loved being there to capture their legal marriage.

Next stop, England! This time for a full wedding day celebrating with Daniel’s family, who were finally able to be there in person for all the festivities.

Wedding 3 - The Party! 🥂
Fast forward to August and I was lucky enough to catch up with these two again for their third (and final!) wedding celebration, this time in Sydney. No ceremony required, just portraits around Sydney Harbour followed by a big celebration with all their friends at The Grounds.

And my favourite part of their Sydney celebration? THEY HAD MARIO KART!! 🎮

Three weddings, two countries and a whole lot of celebrating packed into just a few months. Not every couple can say they’ve married the same person three times in one year (although technically only once legally!), but Kiley & Daniel have certainly made the most of it!

I loved being there to capture both of their Australian celebrations, and seeing these two get to celebrate their marriage in three completely different ways, with the people they love, was pretty special.

I absolutely love when couples throw the traditional wedding timeline out the window and do things entirely their own way, and Chrissie & Nick’s wedding at Sylvan Glen in the Southern Highlands was the perfect example of this!

Their intimate wedding was all about spending quality time with their favourite people, and rather than following the usual order of events, they kicked off their celebrations with a long lunch reception, complete with speeches & plenty of laughs. From there, they ducked away for a quick change into their wedding attire before making things official at their ceremony, followed by cocktail hour, the most stunning sunset & an evening of dinner and family games!

There was no pressure to squeeze everything into a traditional wedding timeline. Instead, they created a day that was completely true to them, with the focus on celebrating their love and actually getting to spend time with the people they love most.

And it was absolutely perfect!

Kaitlin & Bryce’s wedding at Growwild last weekend was absolutely perfect🌿✨

These highschool sweethearts were married by Alisha Perkins • Celebrant & MC • South Coast NSW in an intimate celebration in Growwild’s Secret Garden, and the weather put on a belter of a day for them!

Growwild is truly one of my favourite Southern Highlands wedding venues to photograph. It has this beautiful blend of natural beauty and timeless style that makes every wedding unique. I can’t wait to be back there again tomorrow – if I could photograph every wedding here, I absolutely would.

High school sweethearts and now husband & wife! Lauren & Nick’s Wollongong wedding last Friday was an absolute cracker.

Their day kicked off with their nearest & dearest before heading to St Francis Xavier Cathedral. A place with special significance to Lauren’s family and made even more meaningful with her uncle officiating their marriage. From there we headed off for portraits, made the most of that gorgeous afternoon light and finished up at City Beach for a night of celebrations.

A very entertaining wedding party, plenty of laughs, ch*****ne sprays, sparklers and a dance floor full of their favourite people. These two wanted a day centred around family, friends & having a good time and that’s exactly what they got. I had an absolute ball with Lauren, Nick & their loved ones. Thank you both for having me along!

PS. I’m now a firm believer that fairy bread is the elite wedding morning snack.

Almost 10 years to the day since a Tinder match started all of this, Gemma & Brendan got married at Wildwood Kangaroo Valley on Saturday!

These two, their favourite people & one very important four-legged family member. Ollie was there when Brendan proposed on a secluded beach three years ago, so of course he had a job for the wedding too. He absolutely nailed his ring bearer duties, but portraits afterwards proved one job too many, falling asleep in Brendan’s arms mid photos. Tough gig being that cute.

Almost 10 years together, a whole lot of laughs & finally getting to call each other husband & wife. Congratulations Gemma & Brendan!

Five years ago, two cops met on a training course at work & told everyone they were ‘just friends’. Last weekend, in front of many of those same people, Steph & Rob finally had to retire that story for good.

Their wedding took us from St Peter Chanel Catholic Church in Woolwich to Angelo’s Cabarita, with Sydney serving up intermittent rain & some ridiculously moody skies in between. And when the rain cleared at exactly the right moments, we absolutely made the most of them - including that skyline doing its thing across the harbour. Throw in a London cab for transport & there was plenty of character to this one before we’d even made it to the reception.

And then there was Rob’s brother on MC duties, who had more tricks up his sleeve than a seasoned magician. Having the inside scoop of literally being the groom’s brother meant everything he’d organised was incredibly personal to them - including a slideshow of recorded messages from their loved ones & three surprise cameos from actors from Rob’s favourite show, Blue Heelers, including John Wood & Martin Sacks.

But I think my favourite little thread through the whole thing was that original ‘just friends from work’ story making its way into the reception. Five years, one wedding & photographic evidence later… I don’t think anyone’s buying it anymore.

Third session with the Kouzans & we FINALLY got a sunset!

I photographed their engagement which was overcast, then their wedding gave us all seasons in a day with patches of both rain & sunshine but inevitably, again, no sunset.

Finally, for their first family session with me before their ridiculously adorable son’s first birthday, we got our sunset! And it was absolutely worth the wait.
